Saito too.

Now if they could just fill in that gap they have at end of the bullpen stopper.

Levine is having a chat on espn.com at 12 fwiw. Probably nothing groundbreaking and just rehashing of what not but if anyones interested thought I would mention it.

Reports are Braves will look to trade Soriano, he has to approve a trade before June 15. Knowing that Hendry is looking for a vet out of the bullpen Soriano could make sense, if they aren't asking a ton for him and it's more of a salary relief move.

That June 15th rule applies to guys signed as free agents, not guys retained through arbitration.

Corey Patterson was traded in the same offseason after accepting arbitration, for example.

Rules must have changed then, according to Crasnick a trade made before June 15th requires his consent. But Joel Sherman says the date is June 1st

Correctamundo.

(I've been wanting to use that word all day for some reason)

Right, there are two types of guys who go to arbitration. Arb eligible but non free agent eligible players, or eligible free agents. A free agent is a free agent. A non-free agent who is arb eligible and offered arbitration doesn't accept arbitration, it accepts him.

That's the "what". Here's the "why".

the former is still under team control. He can either sign or go through arbitration (which he cannot reject) or be non-tendered, rendering him a free agent. Since he never left team control he can be traded.

the latter is not under team control. He is a free agent unless he is offered arbitration (which he can reject). Since he is not under team control (he can reject the arbitration) he cannot be traded if he accepts arbitration.

I wouldn't worry about a lot of these rumors.

Agreed, but Rosenthal tends to be somewhat decent at least when he floats a rumor. The very thought of him anywhere in the outfield at Wrigley makes me want to ](*,)

Ken Rosenthal just said the Cubs are looking into Scott Podsednik...please no. please please please no.

oh holy crap

My sentiments exactly. We already have a similar player on the roster name Sam Fuld. Don't need another, Jim.

Rosenthal has been terrible the past year or so. He had one really good offseason.

Word on the street is that the Marlins turned down Neftali Feliz and Justin Smoak for Josh Johnson.

I guess the Marlins have Logan Morrison and Mike Stanton, but wow.

I'd trade Zambrano for one of those guys. Place a call Jim.

If that rumor is true, the Marlins are idiots. I'd do Johnson for Feliz straight up. Why would you want to commit to spending big dollars on a 25 year old pitcher who was healthy for the first time in 3 years instead of having a guy under your control for a LONG time who is 4 years younger and probably going to end up being 10 times better and is already primed to start in the majors next year?

There's no way that's true, Feliz was probably the best pitching prospect in baseball this year. Smoak isn't exactly crap either. Why would they turn both those players down for one guy who is about to cost a lot of money and has yet to show any signs of continued consistency, health wise?

It's certainly a very anit-Marlins move and goes completely against their philosophy.

Rotoworld says Cubs are among the teams interested in signing Joel Pineiro. Thoughts? He had a good WHIP last year and just over 60% the balls put into play against him were on the ground

I'd rather have kept Harden on a 1yr deal. I don't see us having interest in Piniero though to be honest.
