I'm not sure how Felipe Lopez is a "decent" option.

He posted a .310/.383/.427 line last year. He has a career .738 OPS and he has been pretty solid every year since 2005 (first year he became an everyday player) outside of 2007 when he was miserable. He has had OBP above .340 every year except one since 2005 and 3 times he's been above .350. For the right price I am interested.

Kelly Johnson could be a option to since the Braves are looking to get rid of him. But from the way Hendry talks(mentioned Fontenot with Soto/Soriano as needing a better year) I wouldn't be surprised if we go into the year with Fontenot/Baker.

I'm ok with Cameron. I just have a problem with our lead off situation. I am not sold on Fukudome or Theriot in the 1 spot. Seems like only a matter of time until Lou tries selling us on the fact that Soriano is the best for that spot in the lineup. Any other ideas???

My idea is that leadoff hitter isn't a position, and Fukudome is just fine there.

if soriano shows up next year, i'm fine with him leading off.

There's a decent bit of risk in Cameron considering his age and lack of contact, however if he produces for us like he did in Milwaukee he is a very big upgrade. We're probably talking a few wins from defense alone and then he's an offensive upgrade from what we got last year as well.

Okay, help me out here because I obviously don't understand intangibles.

How exactly is having a PED user on the team just fine, but having an [expletive] (who hasn't broken any rules) isn't?

I like Mike Cameron. He's a hell of a baseball player. But for all those people trying to justify letting Bradley go on some sort of moral grounds, it seems like your logic train jumped the tracks if you're okay with acquiring Cameron to replace him.

I thought Cameron got busted for weed?

2007

On October 31, 2007, it was announced that Michael Cameron had failed a test for banned stimulants for a second time and would miss the first 25 games of the 2008 season. Cameron has said he believes that a supplement he took was "tainted." However, given the requirement of two failed drug tests before an announcement is made, this explanation is questionable. He was just the second major leaguer to be suspended for a second positive test for stimulants, following Neifi Pérez.[3]

I don't really care, but then again, I'm not trying to justify trading Milton. I'm just resigned to it.

Cubs signing of Mike Cameron is waiting on deal of Milton Bradley, which has been "imminent" for about 72 hours.

While I'm not opposed to Cameron, becoming an even older team than we already are worries me. Thankfully we have a pretty good farm system that is just a couple years away from producing multiple major-leaguers.

Is this more or less imminent than the 3 way deal was a few weeks ago, or the Roberts or Peavy trades were. When it comes to Cubs trades, the word imminent is translated to mean possible.

MLBTR's Dierkes said his source says there is nothing to this rumor.

Edit: Link

I don't buy that. Lou was talking him up in the SunTimes article, which to me is a pretty clear indication the Cubs are very interested in Cameron.

They can be interested, I think they are, but that isn't what Dierkes is saying is false. What he is saying is false is that a signing of Cameron is coming soon as well as a Bradley trade. Lou was talking up Ibanez last offseason when we were searching for that vaunted LH middle of the order run producer, then we went and signed Bradley.

The last thing we need is another old player who strikes out 160 times a year and who has cant hit above .273-- don't we have enough guys like this?

For all the hype about his consistency; his defense is great, his obp isn't bad. 25 hr's and 75 rbi's, is pretty good from centerfield. But we have enough power and strikeouts on this team we need guys who can hit for average and take walks to balance this. All cameron ensures is that we have more games that we win 10-2 only to get shut out the next three days in a row.

"Hit for average?"

God help us all. You get this and someone saying that pitching wins and losses have been the #1 way to evaluate pitchers since baseball began all in the same day.

He averages 73 BB per year, he's only had 2 seasons with a OPS below .780 since 1999 (.774-2003 and .759-2007), he has been at .800+ 6 times since 1999 and two other years he was just below .800 (.798 and .795) and his career OPS while in the NL has been .805 (.769 AL). He is a top 10 CF and would make us better without a doubt.

You also have to remember this move allows us to move Kosuke back to RF, where he ranked as one of the best defensive RF in 2008. We go from having below average defense at all 3 OF spots last year to having well above average defense in 2 OF spots.

Personally, I question the ability of a 37 year old Mike Cameron one year removed from PEDs. All the numbers people are throwing around are far from a given.
