Okay lets just call Olsen a possession receiver and not get rid of a good young tight end for a OC who hopefully will be gone in a season or two.

Why hopefully? Hopefully Martz fixes this inept offense, which just happens to include a disappointing TE, and stays for a while.

Like he did in Detroit.

Martz is a terrible offensive coordinator, and you'll figure that out pretty fast.

Okay, hopefully was the wrong word choice. Of course I hope it works out well. I just expect it to be bad, I just worry it will be below average, but not bad enough that he sticks around for way too long.

Nah, I'll wait until the season goes on.

I'm sure by about game 4-5 people will be saying he's as terrible as Turner. You think Cutler was a turnover machine this year, wait until next year when the Bears never run it with a terrible offensive line, and terrible receiving corps. He'll destroy what's left of Jay Cutler.

Martz doesn't run the ball at all, and runs an extremely unbalanced offense towards passing. He often doesn't change his gameplan either if it's not working either. Kurt Warner left because of him in St. Louis and got kicked out of St. Louis. And he got ran out of Detroit because nobody liked him either.

Good luck with the Vikings/Packers when Cutler's running for his life all game long.

And I'll gladly eat my crow if I'm wrong here.

Pretty sure Warner left because he was benched after fumbling a half dozen times in one game and his replacement became a pro-bowler.

Almost all of this seems at least partly wrong.

Yeah, I'm not even a fan of Martz and that seems like a really, really skewed take on history.

The same could be said about the Colts, Chargers, Saints, hell even the blue collar steel curtain Steelers pass a lot. So, that's not a bad thing.

I do worry about the pressure on the OL with all the longer drops. I do worry about Martz seemingly disregarding the value of protecting the ball.

martz fulfills at least one of my requirements in that he runs a pass-happy offense. the balancing of plays is overrated and is promoted by football neanderthals.

my problem with martz is that he runs very little shotgun and doesn't allow the quarterback to audible. i think cutler could benefit from being given a certain amount of autonomy, although i will say that martz's audibles are really within the play that is called. they are so complex that there are plenty of options and ways to beat any number of defenses, so, in that way, cutler will be given options.

Martz was fired by Rod Marinelli; that actually speaks well of him, if you ask me

nevertheless, he was let go due to philosophical differences. he differed with Marinelli's archaic dumb ass approach to running an offense

yep, the NFL is a passing league now. I don't want to run the ball 45 times a game, and I don't care what "Bears Football" is/was

Martz has his red flags but people need to realize running the ball even 50% of the time isn't a successful game plan in the NFL these days. As Sulley said, this is actually a plus point in favor of Martz.

5 teams ran the ball more than they threw it this year. Those were the Jets, Titans, Bengals, Browns, and Panthers. Most teams weren't even close. Only 2 of those teams had winning records, and 3 of those teams were in the top 5 rushing teams. So, unless you are really really good at running the ball or have QB situations as bad as the Bengals, Browns and Panthers should you even try to run consistently. The Bears don't figure to be either.

New York Jets running back Thomas Jones will not rework his contract, and could be released from the team this week, according to published reports.

Jones, 31, was expected to make $2.8 million in base salary next season and was reportedly asked to take a pay cut.

Jones rushed for a career-high 1,402 yards last season, but was plagued with a knee injury that hampered his performance during the playoffs.

I wonder if the Bears would go down that road again. There'd have to be some kissing and making up I'd think.

Don't do it Chester.

Throwing the ball isn't a major strike against Martz. The thing I would be concerned about are the deep routes he runs and number of 7 step drops he uses with that o-line. His QB's have gotten killed when they haven't had a good o-line in front of them. For the Bears, OL is a much bigger need than WR or anything on defense in my opinion.

I'm hoping Williams is ready to be that left tackle now. I'm basing this off of his play against the Vikings late in the season, which was pretty good against one of the better pass rushers in the league.

I'm still worried about it though.

I realize there's more to it than just LT, but that would be the key first step to not having Cutler land in the hospital.

I'm more worried about the interior of the line. Kruetz stinks at this point. Garza just takes up space. This team needs a potential star at the LG position.

Turner called for the pass a lot this year too you know. We were one of the most pass happy teams in the league.

yeah, but i'm not sure that was in the game plan. it was more of just a product of not being able to run or getting behind early.
