Big, big, big game on Monday night. If we win, we're a near lock of taking one of the Wild Card spots.

But our record under MM in big games isn't very good, so I'm not too optimistic.

Posted

Could be a trap game for the Saints coming off a big win on Monday Night.

Obviously not the same team but Washington did beat New Orleans last year in Washington.

Vikings have a big game in Arizona, they can't afford to lose another game if they want the NFC to go through Minnesota, Especially to a NFC team.

The Titans could really really show the country that they are a legit playoff contenter/threat if they can knock off Indy in Indy.

And Indy could destroy the Titans great comeback attempt.

The Cowboys could really hurt the Giants in two ways if they can knock them off in New York.

And of course, big game for Both Green Bay and Balitmore on Monday Night.

I really can't belive its week 13 already.

Shaping up to be an exciting playoffs.

Minnesota vs NO would be a sweet matchup. I hope NO destroys Favre.

I still give the Pats as good a chance as anyone in the AFC. Never underestimate the Hoody- although I know every hates his guts. He's the smartest coach in football.

A Pats/Colts matchup would be sweet too.

Should be an interesting game for the Titans Sunday. The Colts are the best team - by far - that we've played since we started winning games and they have the best passing offense. Our secondary has still been shaky at best in the 5-game winning streak, so I expect Peyton to have a bit of a field day against us.

Our best shot to win is to control the ball and the clock and limit the possessions the Colts have. Similar to the Indy/Miami game, we have avoid turnovers and gain positive yardage on pretty much every play. If we can burn enough clock, we'll have a chance in the fourth quarter.

Note of interest - there has apparently never been a running back who has had 3 rushing TDs of 85+ yards in their career. Chris Johnson has had 3 of those this season.

I think I mentioned it a few weeks ago, I think Johnson is the best back in the league.

I really really want to see Vince Young go into Indy and win.

Besides the winning streak and the playoff hunt, one of the best things about Sunday's win was that it was the first time that Vince truly won a game this year. Before that game, he had been the starting QB in wins, but had done little more than manage the game and make a few plays. In that game-winning drive, though, Vince won the game through the air.

That is a very positive sign.

I think you have noticed me sorta "root" for the Titans over the last couple years Dew, and I also wanted to see Vince get another chance before getting ride of him. I think the best part of Sunday's game was not only watching Vince win a game throught the air, but was to see Young hook up with Britt over and over again.

Not much on the way on poor weather cities hosting games in the Divisional Round. Indoors for the NFC is locked up, as well as one spot in the AFC.

That was great to see. That entire drive was Vince hooking up with the franchise's future. Britt, Jared Cook and Lavell Hawkins were the guys who made the catches on that game-winning drive. The future of this offense is very promising right now.

49ers enter the make or break portion of the schedule. Back into division play and no game is left that we can't win. We swept the division the first time around. If we do that again we will be at worst one game behind Arizona with the tiebreaker and having Detroit and Phily left. Taking Detroit as a win we will have the Philly game to be either 10-6 or 9-7.

Meanwhile Arizona has Minnesota and Green Bay left on their schedule. They had better lose this week to Minny. That makes the 49ers v. Cardinals game in week 14 for the division lead and it is in San Fran.

Basically what I am saying is the division is not close to being won yet. It could very well come down to the last week when Arizona plays Green Bay.

With all that said San Fran has to get through a dangerous game in Seattle this week. We don't normally do very well against Seattle but then again Alex Smith is improving each week and has developed into a decent QB now that we are using the spread type offense.

Johnson must have a big game for them to win and VY can't make mistakes. Even that might not be enough, but if Johnson is held in check and/or VY throws a couple picks, the Titans don't have a chance.

Speaking of CJ he set the record for most yards in a month with his game Sunday. I don't much like the stat because the leaders of it were lucky enough to have 5 games in one month.

Anyways I did some compiling of 5 game rushing totals when my brother asked me to find some comparable streaks when we were arguing about CJ being the best RB in the league. This is before this past game so it's a little out of date (kept forgetting to post this). I'll try to get it updated some time this week.

Peterson 2007: 765 yards, 94 carries, 8.14 avg

CJ 2009: 774 yards, 121 carries, 6.4 avg

Other cases that popped into my head where just seasons where people rushed for 2000 yards. Terrell Davis, Dickerson, O.J. and then also I know LT had a couple seasons where he had multiple 200 yard games close to each other.

Terrell Davis 1998: 780 yards, 129 carries, 6.05 avg

Eric Dickerson 1984: 836 yards, 141 carries, 5.93 avg (if we go six games Dickerson adds a 208 yard game)

Barry Sanders 1997: 842 yards, 115 carries, 7.32 avg (RIDICULOUS, ended season with 14 straight 100+ games, still my favorite player after Steve Young and still easily the best RB in history imo)

O.J. Simpson 1973: 813 yards, 124 carries, 6.56 avg

O.J. 1973 (yes same season): 800 yards, 115 carries, 6.96 avg

O.J. 1975: 823 yards, 142 carries, 5.8 avg

O.J. 1976: 843 yards, 130 carries, 6.49 avg

Tomlinson 2006: 673 yards, 104 carries, 6.47 avg (came during TD streak, had 14 td's, had 603 yards in next 4 games)

Every example I thought of (2,000+ runners, LT and AP) came up with a comparable streak with some being clearly better. I'm sure there are many other streaks out there for 5 games with comparable yards and averages done by lesser known players.

Like I said on the phone CJ is in the middle of his streak and no 5 games should change your mind on who is best. He is the RB playing the best at this exact time but AP is still the better RB. That was my point on the phone. I think you are getting caught up with one of your teams players going on an incredible streak.

Also like I said Stephen Jackson is still the wildcard in this whole debate. He has played behind a horrible OL with a horrible QB and WR's around him. He gets 8 and even 9 in the box on almost every run and yet is still putting up just as good numbers.

Yeah, we definitely can't make mistakes. We have to score something on most of our possessions, can't turn the ball over and must keep the ball out of Peyton's hands.

If we do that, we'll have a chance. It's no guarantee to win, though.

I think the Titans have a real good chance to win. The Colts have been playing with fire and this game will mean more to the Titans. I'd also feel more comfortable if Bob Sanders was healthy to "spy" on Vince Young. The Colts have been running the ball more effectively recently; though their defense has struggled a bit recently (especially the pass defense, in my opinion, though hopefully the return of a healthy Kelvin Hayden would remedy that somewhat).

Chris Johnson is ridiculous.

I just don't like our chances of slowing down Peyton and the passing game much at all. If Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart can throw the ball wherever they want at will, Peyton will feel like he's back at UT facing a 1-AA opponent.

I agree completely with you last sentence, though.

I approve of this message, since I have Peyton in the NSBB league and a win assures me of the #1 seed. :D

Several of the NFL Stat sites are agreeing that Brees' performance against the Pats was the best ever by a QB in the regular season.

http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/11_3002_Brees%3A_the_best_day_ever.html

158.3 is the statistically “perfect” passer rating. NFL quarterbacks have produced just 22 “perfect” game since 1960 (min. 20 attempts). Few did it on a stage as large as the one Brees played on Monday night (Peyton Manning had a “perfect” game against the Broncos in the 2003 playoffs). Few had done it when one of the great coaches of their time was on the other sideline. Few had done it when one of the great quarterbacks of their time was in the other huddle. And nobody had done it against one of the great dynastic teams of the last half century.

And perhaps nobody had produced a “perfect” effort in a game in which he needed to play near flawlessly to prove that he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the greats of the game.

Brees is the first player to throw five touchdown passes against a defense fielded by Bill Belichick, the coach considered the great defensive “genius” of his generation.

Nobody did it against Belichick’s Giants, where he was defensive coordinator. Nobody did it against Belichick’s Browns, where he was head coach. Nobody did it against Belichick's Jets, where he was the assistant head coach. And nobody had done it against Belichick’s Patriots, where he was both an assistant and a head coach.

In fact, since he took over as head coach of the Patriots in 2000, only three players had thrown as many as four TDs against a Belichick defense, and all are named Manning: Peyton in 2003 and 2009 and Eli in 2007.

But quarterbacks simply do not average 16 yards per attempt in today’s NFL. It hadn’t happened in 34 years. It doesn’t happen on the big stage of Monday night football. It doesn’t happen against Bill Belichick. It doesn’t happen against the mighty New England victory machine. It doesn’t happen for an 11-0 team that has never won a Super Bowl.

But it all came together for Drew Brees Monday night, in the single-greatest regular-season passing performance in modern NFL history.

Football reference agrees on the best ever statement as well:

I think one the most amazing things to me is that the Saints were already pulling on the reins near the end of the third quarter and running the clock. Brees probably could have had 7 TD's in that game if he had to.

i don't get this:

All told, it was a banner passing night for Brees, who entered the game with many in the media still wondering if he belonged in the discussion with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as the game's top quarterback.

who was wondering that???? he's probably having his best year; his yards/game is down from last year because their running game is improved and they're often beating teams so handily in the second half that there's no reason to pass the ball, but he's got his best completion %, by his best yards/pass, his best td %, and one of his lowest int %.
