mark ingram is the worst heisman winner ever. that's a fact that most of us can agree on.

Yes, a RB with over 1500 yards 15 TDs with under 250 carries, plus another 300 yards recieving and 3 more TDs is the worst Heisman winner ever. Not to mention he did in the SEC. I'm glad you don't have a vote for the Heisman.

Yes both Suh and Gerhart did deserve to win the Heisman, or they wouldn't have been invited to New York, but to me the bigger issue was why CJ Spiller wasn't invited to New York and Tim Tebow was? Why are we not having fits about that misjustice?

You can moan and groan about who won the Heisman, but the fact remains is was a close vote and even if Toby or Suh won people would be arguing the cases of those who lost. I don't know why people are upset about Suh not winning, cause Suh isn't. Everybody knows that defensives players are never going to win an offensive awards (fair or not), the fact that he made it to New York is a big effin deal.

Stop complaining and move on. Crying like a woman during childbirth isn't going to change the outcome.

oh lordy 1500 yards and 15 TDs in a weak ass conference, holy crap stop the presses, this guy could be the best in the NFL RIGHT NOW.

i know when i think of the heisman trophy, the most prestigious individual award in sports, i think of standout performances like his breakout 50 yards in the arkansas game, or the 30 yards he racked up against auburn.

Gerhart performed better, on a team with less around him, against better teams. If you're going with an offensive player, you have to go with Gerhart over Ingram. It's funny that Gerhart wins the Doak Walker but Ingram wins the Heisman.

But yeah, if you're actually going to invite him, you should probably give the award to the best defensive player in a really long time. He had a better defensive season than Woodson in 97 and Bailey in 98.

ingram won because the voters are all fat, lazy slobs (that goes over well in alabama) who, when all else fails, can be counted on to vote for the best player on an undefeated team.

he didn't want to pad his stats in those games.

Ingram isn't even top 10 worst Heisman winners of all time. There's at least a dozen system quarterbacks who were worse.

Finally a person with a working brain cell and is not afraid to use said working brain cell.

People who aren't fans of the programs for which the candidates play actually care about who wins the Heisman?

Anything like the stupidity of "Gerhart padded his stats against 5 teams" argument? The one that was smashed with facts?

I just think people are upset that a Crimson Tide player won the award over an inferior player playing on an inferior team in an inferior league. Save the BS argument over which conference is better. Bottomline the choice was made, and NO TOBY GERHART WAS NOT ROBBED, people need to stop using that BS cliche. Deal with it.

2009 Heisman Trophy Winner: Mark Ingram. Now deal with it.

See if you needle RedFlash enough he'll eventually let you know his true feelings, and man is it worth it.

Good to see that when your false assertions are proven incorrect you go with a different argument. A simple "I was talking out of my butt, and was way wrong" would suffice. Somehow, doubt we'll see that admission.

I'll say this... while he did not deserve the award, he still had a fine season, and has shown great class throughout the process. He's seemingly a good kid, and I can be happy for him. I think though, that his illustrates how most fans feel about Alabama- it's not the players who make them so hated (as was once the case with Miami), and it's not even the coach, but instead the fans.

Anyway, congrats, Ingram. Deserve it or not, your name is on the trophy, and no one can take it away from you- least of all a bunch of guys on a meaningless message board on the interwebs.

Or the best RB in college football lost to a player who was worse but played on a better team.

It looks like two Ohio State players will be ineligible for the Rose Bowl:

ESPN.com[/url]"]Ohio State wide receiver Duron Carter and defensive end Rob Rose are ineligible to play in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi against No. 7 Oregon, a source tells ESPN.com.

.......

Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel told reporters Monday afternoon in Columbus that he expected to receive final semester grades for his players later that day. Asked if any players were in major jeopardy, Tressel said, "I assume everyone's in major jeopardy until I see [the grades]."

At least Tressel isn't living in a fantasy world. He's also doing a bang-up job keeping up with his students' academic achievement.

Great article about the financial implications of the current bowl system.

There's a lot about how much individual schools are losing on individual bowl games, but it comes down to this:

Bowl appearances also mean feeding a revenue-sharing system in which conferences and teams collected $228 million from bowl payouts last year, up from $186 million in 2004-05. Total expenses for the 68 bowl participants last year were $80 million, including the $15.53 million in unsold tickets.

That means schools’ and conferences’ bowl revenues exceeded expenses by $148,064,026. That’s a profit conferences generally collect to share with all of their members, whether they played in a bowl game or not. For example, Utah’s berth in the Sugar Bowl last year translated into $400,000 extra for all Mountain West Conference members, including San Diego State, which hasn’t played in a bowl since 1998. (SDSU used the proceeds to help fund its contract obligations owed to fired football coach Chuck Long.)

But that profit would not be possible without the bowl payouts from the five big Bowl Championship Series bowls: the Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta and national championship. Those five bowls paid out $148,164,228 — roughly $100,000 more than the total aforementioned profit generated for conferences and teams in the entire 34-game system.

In other words, the combined other 29 games were more of a break-even proposition for the participating schools and conferences. And they are heavily reliant on ticket subsidies to make the payouts to these participants.

“There are going to be schools that overrun (in bowl expenses), but the financial picture needs to be looked at more on an aggregate basis,” said Keith Martin, who compiles bowl financial reports for the NCAA. “Some know they have to absorb a significant amount (in unsold tickets), but want to make the investment for the conference.”

.................

But it was the five BCS games that saved the MAC from incurring bowl losses. The MAC, which comprises mostly smaller Midwestern schools, received $2.1 million of its $5.8 million in bowl revenue from its cut of the five BCS games. That’s because all Division I conferences get a cut of BCS revenue.

Without its BCS revenue, the MAC would have lost money on bowl games — all lower-tier games heavily subsidized by ticket guarantees. Likewise, without its BCS revenue last year of $9.8 million, the Mountain West would have lost money on its other bowl games, all lower-tier games.

Cable dispute could mean some Iowa fans won't be able to watch Orange Bowl broadcast

While the Iowa Hawkeyes prepare for their biggest bowl game in years, thousands of their fans back home may be scrambling to find a TV to watch them.

A dispute between Mediacom Communications Corp. and Sinclair Broadcasting Group could leave 700,000 cable subscribers in 11 states without some local channels on Jan. 1. That includes about 400,000 subscribers in Iowa, most of whom will lose the channel televising the Jan. 5 Orange Bowl between Iowa and Georgia Tech.

"It's a huge outrage," said Brandon Huggins, a store clerk at a university apparel shop in Iowa City, home to the Hawkeyes. "I'd like to think they'll figure something out, or make an exception for Iowa City."

Barry Faber, executive vice president and general counsel to Hunt Valley, Md.-based Sinclair, said he's "very pessimistic" an agreement will be reached with Middletown, N.Y.-based Mediacom by Dec. 31, when the current three-year deal ends.

That means customers in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and other Iowa cities will miss the Orange Bowl unless they find a TV with a satellite connection or rely on an antenna.

The dispute also threatens to knock off Sinclair stations to Mediacom customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. Shows such as "NCIS," "American Idol" and "24" as well as the Super Bowl and the BCS national championship game could be at stake.

That's some [expletive].

Montana-Villanova tonight in the FCS title game. Starts at 5 p.m. PT.

Montana's undefeated but Villanova has been the more impressive team in the better conference this year. Both have had the benefit of having three home games so far in the playoffs and they're the No. 1 and 2 ranked teams in FCS.

I'm guessing Villanova by a TD but it wouldn't shock me if Montana pulled it out.

Pretty good game tonight with Nova winning 23-21. Nova was unstoppable in the second half on offense and that was the difference in the game.
