why is USC the only team that can consistently lose to an unranked team every year but remain the national title picture?

LSU won the the national championship in 2007 after losing to an unranked Arkansas team in the last game of the regular season.

In 2006 UCLA beat USC in the final game of the regular season so I don't see how that applies to your theory. I guess USC stayed in the hunt after losing to Stanford but if they hadn't lost to Oregon that year they would've been the only other 1 loss team besides Ohio State among BCS teams. In 2008 Oregon State finished 18th in the country and had 9 wins.

So basically your theory is garbage.

I didn't say that USC played for the NC every time they lost to an unranked team, but they stay in the team picture for contenders all the way to the end.

Are you being intentionally dense? How does the fact that LSU won the national championship two years ago after losing to an unranked team in the last game of the regular season not completely undermine your claim?

And didn't Florida stay in the national title hunt just last year after losing to an unranked Ole Miss team? Sure they finished ranked but so did the Beavers last year. Your assertion just doesn't hold up.

Screw everyone. 8-0 with an epic finish. I don't think Iowa deserves the title game if Florida/Alabama and Texas finish undefeated but I think they'd put up a fight against those three teams (I think they'd struggle with Texas the most).

I'm enjoying this season, especially after the crapfest known as the Cubs season.

I really hope we destroy Indiana and Northwestern, but with the way this season has gone those will be tough as well. We should be going to a BCS game now either way, but we'll see. It's my nature to be pessimistic.

The other two wins in our non conference season are looking better by the way (Arizona and Iowa State.). And those were dominating wins.

USC has had typically better non-conference wins than the rest of the title contenders. They try to schedule well (they've had exactly 2 games against non BCS conference+ND teams in the last 4 years combined). Not to mention that they typically have looked very impressive in compiling those early season wins and it shows why they have more staying power when they do lose a game.

Oh and if Iowa finishes undefeated with Cincy and Boise, Iowa should be ahead of those teams. They would have beated better teams.

Don't know much about Cincy's schedule, but I completely agree on Boise. And I'd probably put them ahead of TCU also, though I think TCU is a pretty good team (I'm hoping they go undefeated and jump Boise because I'd like to see them in a BCS game).

Man, don't you just hate it when you beated better teams and they're ranked ahead of you in the final polls?

Cincy's out of conference schedule includes Oregon State, Fresno State, and Illinois.

Navy didn't throw the ball once today.

Don't they do that a couple times each season?

No. It's the first time they did it this year and they did it once last year (also had a couple games where they threw 2 passes) but didn't do it at all in 2007 (fewest was five), 2006 (fewest was six) or 2005 (fewest was three but only three single-digit attempt games). Those two games are also the only two in the last five years where they haven't had a completion either (so no 0-for-2 games).

Watching College Football Final, and May and Holtz were doing the segment where Rece Davis is the judge and he has the two debate about a certain matter. He had them debate about the government stepping in to regulate the BCS and watching the two talk about politics (Holtz in particular, of course) was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

I don't know how anyone can take Lou Holtz seriously. He's really quite the funny man.

iowa football has a complete horseshoe up their butt this year. i did pick them today because after last week i just gave up picking against them. i think they'll be the first team in history to go 13-0 with a point differential of like 50 points.

I really, really, really want to know why 0-7 Ball State is FAVORED on the road against Eastern Michigan, quite possibly with Kelly Page unavailable due to injury.
Now you know why. BSU 29, EMU 27.

463 yards rushing. MiQuale Lewis goes for 301 and Cory Sykes goes for 203. Two completed passes for one freaking yard.

We're a weird-ass football team. We're not winning any remaining game, so hello 1-11. It never felt so sweet.

This is the first game this year where Jimmy Clausen really hasn't looked good. His numbers were respectable I guess (26/39 for 246, 2 TD, no picks), but not in the vicinity of great. But in the end he'll probably actually move up in Heisman consideration because Tebow is crapping the bed this year. He didn't play very well today though. We basically had one pass play in the playbook this week - quick curl route - and Jimmy threw those on the money but beyond that he made some bad decisions and wasn't his usual self. I'll credit BC some for that, as Jimmy faced more heat today than he has most of the season.

BC played horribly and we should have won by way more. But a win is a win, especially against those damn Eagles - five more probably sends us to Miami or Glendale, which is the best I can hope for out of the season.

It's got to be one of the biggest reverse turnarounds in college football history. It's not very often you see a team go from 12-2 to 1-11 in one season.

can i start up the jacquizz rogers for heisman bandwagon? he's really damn good and none of the "popular" heisman picks impress me much.

yeah it does seem to be a down year for the Heisman. Then again I think that has a lot to do with having two former winners and one that put up worthy enough numbers back this season and all three not doing nearly as well.

i don't get why everyone assumes florida/alabama would trounce iowa in a hypothetical nat'l championship game. people act like those two teams are in a class by themselves and i don't see it.

What exactly shows you that Iowa is such a good team and would be able to hang with Florida or Alabama?

I know it couldn't have been that 17-16 victory over Northern Iowa or that 24-21 victory over Arkansas State, both of which came at home. Neither Florida nor Alabama struggled against teams as weak as those two are.

Fair, but I also don't think Florida/Alabama look much more impressive winning at Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Wait, if you don't trounce a Big Ten team on the road it shows how weak the Big Ten is. When you struggle to beat an SEC team it shows how deep the SEC is. That's right...

The SEC and it's fans might be the most annoying thing in the history of the world.
