In other Vols-Tide news, Nick Saban sunk to a new level of douchebagness today. Tennessee asked for permission to wear their Orange jerseys into Tuscaloose (and thus rekindle an old-fashioned tradition of Tennessee always wearing Orange and Alabama always wearing Crimson in this matchup), and despite the conference giving it to okay, Saban turns down Tennessee.

This is historical, as these teams wore their colors against one another well into the '60's. Just a douchey move.

Sureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Just because USC and UCLA did that a couple of years ago doesn't mean squat. It's not doucey, it's gimmicky, and Alabama football and more important Nick Saban football doesn't need or required gimmicks. So just because Alabama said no to the crimson .v. orange jersey doesn't make it doucey, crying about something so trivial now that says douchebaggery.

Why should Saban care if Tennessee wears its orange unis? If it's just a silly gimmick, it shouldn't bother him if Tennessee wears them, correct?

I think Alabama wins a closer-than-expected game over the Vols. As dew has pointed out, Monte Kiffin will force McElroy to beat Tennessee, and I'm just not sure he's capable of doing that. If Alabama gets their stable of backs untracked and manages to sustain long drives, depth becomes a major factor and Tennessee wears out.

Should Tennessee's defense or special teams put points on the board, this game will be decided by 7 points or less, and I will not be surprised if the Vols win. Again, I expect Alabama's talent level to win this game, but gameplan will be a Tennessee advantage. I just don't think they have the horses to execute that gameplan well enough to win.

This is pretty much the way I feel about the game. The defense will keep us in it, but without a big play by the defense/special teams, we won't have the offense to win.

Douche, douchebag, douchebagedness, douchebaggery and all other forms of this word are really tremendous, however, there's been some terrible misuse/overuse of these words in this thread and many others. They need to be utilized properly or else risk losing all meaning.

Where does "doucey" fit into the equation?

it's weird hearing Notre Dame fans describing any other fanbase as intolerable.

really b/c we said the same things about UM's fans.

we were right then too

lol. ND fans are the St. Louis Cardinal fans of college football. Smug, condescending, self-congratulatory, completely delusional, and living on ancient history. Wake up the echos Ka-nute! Wake up the echos.

Since none of it holds much water, I'm going to ignore the bulk of your post to simply point out that St Louis won a damn world series just 3 years ago. Ancient history indeed.

Wasn't that the last time ND managed to crack the top 20? Sorry, that's ancient history in college football. Where's a good drunken midget with the cudgel when you need him?

I don't know who did what to you to create this deep hatred, but it's hilarious.

I grew up surrounded by them (not my family). There isn't a more intolerable fanbase in all of sports, and it isn't particularly close, although I haven't been around Duke basketball fans all that much. This is coming from a guy who had his car literally destroyed when I attended Ohio State simply because it had Michigan plates.

The air of moral superiority brought on due to the affiliation with the church. The false sense of accomplishment in the thought of obtaining a liberal arts degree from a small and relatively insignificant college in the middle of nowhere. Or even worse, the people who didn't attend ND and still love them even though most of the students who do attend wouldn't piss on the people if their pants were on fire. The reverence for history that nearly drove Dan Devine insane even when he won. The, we're better than them because we have ushers who actually sit people at game and we're polite to the the other team's fans. Need I mention Rudy? ND, Indiana because we are too good for South Bend.

The list is practically endless.

Yes, Kiffin can be an arse and still show up in those orange jersey, but it will cost his team 15 yards on the kickoff to begin both halves.

If that is what you think, then so be it. You be wrong, but that's okay. Alabama has the right to decline it. If Alabama/Tennessee game was played a neutral site similar to GA/Florida, Texas/OU, USC/UCLA, then fine I'll be for it, but since it's NOT, Alabama has the right to deny Tennessee, just like Tennessee has the right to deny Alabama if the roles were reverse. It's not being "douchy" it's what I call keeping the competitve advantage.
