Iowa at 13 is much closer to correct/fair than 17. They should be higher than either ranking -- I would have them top-10 easy, maybe even at No. 6. The UNI squeaker hurts, but they're a tough team and Iowa's other three wins have been impressive (Arizona is looking real good -- a win at Oregon State is a nice victory). And, honestly, LSU hasn't been terribly impressive -- I'm not sure they've distinguished themselves from Iowa so far.

Iowa at #6? Let's not get silly here.....you're going to lose 2 or 3 games this year.

Exile is an IU fan, and in any case, the polls aren't supposed to be predictive.

As has been said, I owe to allegiance to Iowa. I'm a Hoosier.

I don't view the polls as entirely predictive -- I say entirely because even though I'm starting to believe Alabama is the best team, they would remain behind Florida in my hypothetical personal poll (which is, naturally, entirely an exercise in futility). Iowa has accomplished a good deal -- more than most teams, in fact. Do I think they're the sixth best team in the country? No. But what I think is often wrong.

Crap, I hate when Iowa starts getting media love.

They deserve it though. That defense was impressive.

Agreed. I doubt they win at the 'Shoe, and back-to-back roadies against Bucky and Sparty figures to be a difficult task (though, individually, Iowa is superior to both).

I know they don't drop teams for winning games, but LSU...my god. It was a MIRACLE that they won that game against the worst team in the entire conference.

What do you mean? Iowa dropped out of the top 25 after week 1 for winning a nail biter.

ND's dropped from 38 votes to 7 after two straight wins.

Mizzou dropped from the Top 25 after a win.

There are reams of examples of teams dropping after wins, especially in the early weeks.

Guess I wasn't paying attention. Nevertheless, LSU should have dropped after that win.

Probably would have if the three in front of them didn't all lose.

Iowa is vastly superior to MSU. Road game or not, it'd be a stretch to have them losing that game. Wisconsin will be tough, but still. If the better team wins every game, Iowa should be 11-1. Doesn't mean they will. But they could be. There's no basis to say they'll definitely lose 2 or 3 this year.

and there's no basis (based on what I saw) that they'll go 11-1. Despite it being a down year, it's really hard to run the table in the Big 10

I don't think Ohio State is vastly better than Iowa. That game's a toss up , and I don't think I'll ever see them winning at OSU. I could see them dropping MSU or Wisconsin (probably Wisconsin) but I'm expecting, at worst, a 10 win season right now.

Thats got to be one of the biggest jumps in a poll in a long time. From not ranked to 13? Wow

The thing was, they should have been 20th going into this game.

They were 21 in the preseason. Yeah they needed the FG blocks to beat UNI but they beat Arizona decisively and won at Iowa State 35-3. They shouldn't have dropped from 21 to 32 based on those three games.

Iowa is definitely capable of going 11-1 and I don't think there's a big difference between OSU and Iowa. That said, I think 2 losses is a fair guess. The one thing to remember is how Ferentz teams almost always get better as the season wears on. If the offense progresses it could be a special year.

Iowa has the 2nd longest winning streak in the country at 8. Florida is at 17.

Penn State, Purdue, Minnesota, South Carolina, UNI, Iowa State, Arizona, Penn State. 1 Big 12 team, 1 SEC team, 1 Pac-10 team, 1 FCS and 4 Big Ten wins.

Are you sure? Down here on the KU broadcast they claimed the same thing yesterday.

despite the loss last night, the schedule doesn't look that hard the rest of the way for PSU:

@ Illinois

vs. E. Illinois

vs. Minnesota

@ Michigan

@ Northwestern

vs. Ohio State

vs. Indiana

@ Michigan State

there are some sure wins in there, but no slam dunk losses. Not playing Wisconsin helps...

Kansas only has 6 consecutive wins at the moment.

this week will be telling. we are better than illinois and should beat them, but if we lose this season could get pretty ugly (like 7-5 ugly or something).

Nice, so a fabrication by the KU announcers.
