BTW, Niemi has been pretty meh since he started getting more PT. Granted it's a small sample size but he's given up 13 goals in his last 4 games, and that's including a shutout in there.

that's not even close to being accurate. before tonight he had given up 9 goals in his last 6 games. tonight he only gave up 1 in 37 minutes.

Well that's where all my confusion lies, but he gave up 4 to boston, shut out the next game (forgot who), gave up 4 to Nashville, and I assumed he gave up 5 tonight, making me think a trend was developing.

Niemi was fine. He made more than his fair share of big stops as well to keep the game at a one goal deficit.

Huet just looked horrible tonight but both goalies have been exceptional lately. I don't know how much stock I should put into his bad outing tonight seeing as how it really is his first bad outing in quite some time. The defense really didn't help matters either.

Very frustrating losing to POS team, according to metrics posted earlier Dallas is a pretty crappy team and the Hawks have managed to lose to them TWICE.

Especially frustrating to me since I live in Dallas/Ft. Worth and have friends who are Stars fans.

Looks like Sharp will get a rest, at least.

Did Niemi get chosen for Finland?

EDIT: Found info on team Finland, and Niemi didn't get picked. Goalies for Finland are Kiprusoff, Backstrom, and Nittymaki.

Hard to argue with that.

Toews might end up on the taxi squad I think. Seabrook made it as Keith's partner. I like what Canada did - pick guys who already have chemistry. Keith and Seabs. Thornton-Marleau-Heatley. Getzlaf-Perry. They should win this...unless Ryan Miller steals it (wishful thinking)

all night the new jersey announcers just kept saying how all season they haven't seen the devils fail to compete like they did tonight.

every big test they have (san josa, the home and homes with detroit/nashville, and now nj) they have just dominated the other team

I expected the Devils to be the one team that we couldn't completely control the game against and dominate. Mostly because of their solid defense and exceptional goalie. It's only one game, and it was on home ice and it was the 2nd of a tough back to back (Pittsburgh, @ Chicago), but the Blackhawks completely dominated them tonight. I am impressed.

Well, interesting wrinkle thrown into tonight's game.

Blues fired Andy Murray this morning or late last night. Wonder how they will come out tonight.

Almost everything I read leading up to the announcement had Buff as an outsider/long shot to make it. I think his reputation in Chicago is higher then it is around the rest of the league. As a Wings fan I have been impressed at times with him, but I have also watched Hawks games where I didnt even notice that he played. Honestly, I think he was real good in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs last year but did seem to be more interested in making a physical presence against the Wings then playing hockey in the WCF.

I am glad that Team USA didnt go for guys like Guerrin and Modano. Play young, scrappy and fast on the bigger ice. I think USA will be hard pressed to medal, but they will be a fun team to watch.

Kane may be arguably the best player on the USA roster. Which is why I think they'll be hard pressed to medal.
