Transactions (Interesting today!):

- Jay Jackson promoted to Iowa!

- Jose Contreras activated from the DL for Daytona.

- Matt Matulia activated from the DL for Iowa.

Kind of a bummer that Iowa's season ends tomorrow. I'd be curious to see what Jackson could do there over a longer stretch.

Oh well, maybe next season.

Jay to Iowa? Wouldn't it make more sense to send him to Tennessee for their playoff race?

Not if there's something involving his original demotion that's keeping him from returning to Tennessee this season.

Fascinating move of Jackson to AAA today. Of course, seeing the walks were a bit disappointing. He was just too good for A+, so we never got to know what to make of his control issues in his last month at Tennessee. Will be curious what the Cubs do with him after this. Seems like Tennessee isn't open for him. Has there been any news on Jackson going to winter leagues?

burke goes 2-4 with the home run and a walk. on the season he closes with a .303/.405/.505/.911 line with 78 BB against 99 K.

.303 BA (6th in league)

.405 OBP (2nd)

.505 SLG (3rd)

.911 OPS (3rd)

93 runs (3rd)

141 hits (6th)

43 doubles (1st)

15 HR (T10th)

89 RBI (T3rd)

235 total bases (4th)

78 BB (T3rd)

terrific year all around for him. probably should've gotten MVP, but that award was split by dee gordon (who steals a lot of bases and also gets caught doing so a lot) and kyle russell, who had 26 HR and 102 RBI, but also an epic strikeout total of 180 (!!!)

Im guessing There must be some kind of bad blood between Jax and Tennessee, and they figured that his progression is more important than keeping him down to prove a point.

he had good but not great numbers at tennessee, but i don't think it would be a big deal for him to start next season at iowa. judging by his performance this year, he should be able to at least be decent at that level in 2010.

Maybe Ryno found out that J. Jax's favorite all time Cub was Sammy Sosa.

The Chiefs actually have one more game today @ Clinton at 2PM CST.

Jackson had one heck of an odd season at Tennessee. He had that slow 3 game start, then heated up and was actually quite dominant for a period (May/June) before collapsing in July when his walk rate absolutely ballooned. It's a shame, as fans, that we never got to find out this year how serious those control problems were, as his stuff was too good for A+.

But Rebel and Kyler both got the day off, so you're end of season stats are correct!

So where can we be expecting some of the top prospects to start the year off next year? Also which ones are playing some sort of fall/winter ball?

Vitters- Daytona

Castro- Tennessee

J. Jackson-Iowa

Cashner-Iowa?

Lee-Peoria

Burke-Daytona? Maybe Tennessee?

B. Jackson- Daytona

Carpenter- Daytona

Huesby-?

So then whats the Iowa pithing staff?

Id have to assume that 1 of Jax, Cash, and Carp make the jump to Iowa. Im assuming the Iowa staff is composed of

Diamond

Atkins

Samardzjia

Russell/Mathes

unless 1 of those guys dazzle during spring training and end up on the big league club, but that leaves 1 more spot open. I suppose Hung Wen Chen could get that spot, but Id rather see one of the other 3 get the show, depending on how they look at ST.

Maybe I have a bad memory, but I seem to recall Iowa regularly signs minor league free agents/journeymen to fill open spots.

If required, that shouldn't be any problem this offseason either

maybe he threw a ball at a bird and isn't allowed back in tennessee.

So is there any word on what the deal was with Jackson? I made a joke about the bird thing a while back but the move to AAA kind of makes it look a little more possible that there was an issue that is keeping him out of Tennessee specifically. He didn't whistle at the wrong woman did he?

I'll bet 10 cyber dollars it has something to do with Sandberg or Lewallyn (Smokies pitching coach).
