maybe he threw a ball at a bird and isn't allowed back in tennessee.

So is there any word on what the deal was with Jackson? I made a joke about the bird thing a while back but the move to AAA kind of makes it look a little more possible that there was an issue that is keeping him out of Tennessee specifically. He didn't whistle at the wrong woman did he?

I'll bet 10 cyber dollars it has something to do with Sandberg or Lewallyn (Smokies pitching coach).

Oh yeah, Sandberg sounds like the right choice. It was a "team rules" issue, no?

So then whats the Iowa pithing staff?

Id have to assume that 1 of Jax, Cash, and Carp make the jump to Iowa. Im assuming the Iowa staff is composed of

Diamond

Atkins

Samardzjia

Russell/Mathes

unless 1 of those guys dazzle during spring training and end up on the big league club, but that leaves 1 more spot open. I suppose Hung Wen Chen could get that spot, but Id rather see one of the other 3 get the show, depending on how they look at ST.

Maybe I have a bad memory, but I seem to recall Iowa regularly signs minor league free agents/journeymen to fill open spots.

If required, that shouldn't be any problem this offseason either

Thats a problem with this organization. Rather than call someone up, they pick up some 30something journeyman to fill the spot. Same goes in the majors. If theyd trust the farm system more, Aaron Miles, Joey Gathright, and the 2009 edition of Paul Bako never would have had to happen.

CubinNY is on the right track. My understanding is that it has to do with an individual on the Tennessee coaching staff.

I hope for Jackson's sake it wasn't Sandberg....he's probably your Cubs manager of the future...very near future...

I sure as hell hope not. That's got disaster written all over it.

I don't think it's a problem at all - the organization promoting it's prospects to a level that is appropriate for their development (in the judgment of those that are responsible) and filling in the gaps with whoever is on the market makes perfect sense to me.

Every single AAA team signs these guys to fill out the roster. Besides if the Cubs didn't sign these guys, who would you beg for them to call up next year?

I'm not saying I agree with it or not, I just have this feeling that it will happen sooner rather than later. It seems clear to me that Hendry has that ultimate goal, and Sandberg just has to put his time in first...which he's been aggressively promoted so far.

Hopefully Hendry doesn't even get the chance to make such a decision.

About the worst thing that could happen is the Smokies making the playoffs. Sandberg really is a bad manager and a bad 3rd base coach to boot. Saturday night he got a guy thrown out at third on an error by the first baseman. He also sac bunted not once, but twice in a row with no outs. The first time Guyer (#1 hitter) was safe.

Haha, Sandberg once sac bunted with the #3 hitter in the first inning after the first two batters had walked.

I know where chattbaseball is coming from but I sure hope not. The one thing going for those of us who don't want Sandberg is that Hendry has hired two veteran managers thus far. He might prefer to go the veteran route once again whenever Lou steps down.

Unless he feels that he wants to go with something different.

The Cubs will do something to sell tickets in February. I wasn't even thinking Ryno, but that would work for many.
