Vanilla Ice is among the missing today. He's up to bat to start tomorrow's game, win, lose, or draw.

Right now, Im telling myself that I wont bother watching this game. Im also telling myself that if I do watch this game, I wont be frustrated when the Cubs lose. Im pretty sure Ill end up watching it, and Im pretty sure Ill be frustrated when they lose.

It's one thing to watch them lose because they just aren't good enough. It's another to watch them compound their inadequacies with horrible decisions by both players and the manager.

It's a lot more fun watching them implode once you get over the fact that the season is over. It's okay, we'll get 'em next year.

I agree. The comdedy of errors isnt quite as comedic when your contending. At this point, we should just turn on the game, turn the TV on mute, play the Benny Hill theme music on repeat and enjoy the show.

Thanks to 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008, this season is much easier to endure.

This season feels like 2005 more than anything else, imo.

True. No playoffs like '03, '07. or '08 or end game meltdown like '04 or even the all out horror of '06. Just the basic mediocrity of '05, the difference being the expectations.

Except that there was a meltdown, it just came in August instead of September. At the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs have a better record than the Cardinals minus the last two weeks. More bitter to swallow than '05. In '05 the Cubs were 8.5 back in May and never really came out of that hole.

I don't think this season really compares to any of the recent seasons the Cubs have had. This one is different. They just keep finding new ways to lose.

I think edit: pitchcs (sorry Outshined) was just pointing out that if it weren't for all the disappointments lately that this would have been even more difficult to swallow. At some point you become numb to it. It's not like they're blowing anything. They never had a division lead larger than 0.5 a game this year. In '07 and '08 they never lead in either NLDS. They're just losing, not blowing anything. It's embarrassing. In 2003 and 2004 they blew it. That was tough but not necessarily embarrassing. I'd rather blow a lead than not show up.
