This organization is embarrassing. I should have been more cautious in my recent excitement. I should have known the wheels would fall off and the Cardinals would not only trade for Holliday, but he would go on a tear.

It's a lesson it took me far too long to learn: Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Part of growing old with the Cubs.

Its 1 series. the wheels arent off yet.

They're starting to wobble. We'll really be in trouble if we lay an egg during the Phillies series.

It's not one series. It's Zambrano getting hurt, Wells possibly falling back down to earth (finally), ARam missing time, etc. You do realized that our rotation currently consists of Samardzija and maybe Caridad?

They'll probably take 2 of 3 to drag us all in again

The Cubs are just a terrible road club.

another random Helton factoid:

Only 5 players in history have a .325 average, 500+ doubles, 300+ HR, and 2000+ hits:

Babe Ruth

Lou Gehrig

Stan Musial

Ted Williams

Todd Helton

also, only a handful of players have a career .300/.400/.500 line in over 10 seasons: they include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Roges Hornsby, Hank Greenberg, Stan Musial, Frank Thomas, Larry Walker Edgar Martinez, Todd Helton, Chipper Jones, Lance Berkman, and Manny Ramirez

We just need to accept that the 2009 Cubs are a decent-good team. The juggernauts of 2008 arent coming back. We can still make the playoffs, and when you get there, its anyones ballgame.

I want to watch this movie tonight.

I will watch this tonight. Seriously, it will be like watching the Cubs right up until the Tribe wins it, which of course elimates that being us.

That's three handfuls and a finger.

That's the absolute worst part of it, too. They'll get your hopes up, and then rip your heart out. It's one thing if there are no expectations coming into the season, and then they have a lousy year. That's not that bad to take. It's when they have high expectations and play just well enough to think they're going to live up to them, and then crap the bed; or when they have very little in the way of expectations, have a fantastic year, then crap the bed in the playoffs is when it really tears at you.
