All I keep saying to myself is "oh my God..." over and over again. Are you kidding me? When I read the thread title I assumed it was like a bar fight or something. Nope he assaulted a cab driver and stole money from him. There goes the neighborhood.

Apparently he lives a double life. He secretly plays as Kobe Bryant when he's not on the Hawks. Here's a screenshot of the article from ESPN.com. Wonder how long it will take for them to fix the picture.

so they paid and even tipped the driver but they didn't pay the fare? sounds like there's something else going on here that the cabby isn't telling us.

I think the fare was $13.80, and they gave him $15 and wanted 20 cents back, which he didn't have. Then they got mad, punched him, and took the $15 back.

The police told the newspaper the fare was $13.80 and the two Kanes had paid the driver $15. The newspaper is reporting the cab driver told police he was punched in the face, grabbed by his throat and had his glasses broken in the altercation.

A team would be hard pressed to have a worse offseason than the Cubs, but the Blackhawks are giving them a run for their money.

It's arguably worse to sign Aaron Miles than to commit any crime short of murder.

a) we aren't hearing the whole story

b) i don't even care. i already know that most professional athletes are a-holes

c) i don't see how this has been a "disastrous" offseason.

The nice thing about being jaded is that it no longer bothers you when your favorite athletes turn out to do jerky things. Data point no. 385,252 in the "Athletes are not generally good people" file. Moving on...

why? because they upgraded from havlat to hossa? because they did the smart thing and DIDN'T overpay for khabi?

if this was like the cubs offseason, they would have overpaid for havlat and khabi, and then traded duncan keith for a role player

exactly. when i read this my only thought was that it was amusing.

technically, i would imagine that kane would have an argument against the cabbie if the guy wouldn't give him his rightful change.

Somehow I don't think that he's going to garner much sympathy as a millionaire not getting 20 cents.

Unfortunately, the "two wrongs made a right" defense is rarely known to sway judges.

Have you been in hibernation? They got Hossa, who turned out to be hurt and are being investigated for potential misconduct and may be fined or lose draft picks because of it.

They had to overpay and put themselves in an even more precarious cap position because they effed up the RFA offers.

And the whole Tallon thing.

And you are saying it's not been a bad offseason?

Anyway, as to the Kane thing, I'm sure it will all get pinned on his cousin in the end. He'll come out clean.

As far as assembling a team for next season, no, it has not been a "disastrous" offseason.

It hasn't been pretty, but disastrous? Come on.

As for Hossa, he'll miss like... what.. 2 months? For a contract that long, that's pretty irrelevant. Plus I highly doubt they lose any picks.

Look at the bright side. If there were lingering questions about which of Toews or Kane the Blackhawks should commit to, if it comes to that.......the answer has just been delivered on a bloodied cab driver's police report.

While the initial story is certainly horrible, i think it would be prudent to await all the details/trial to come out of this case before people start lambasting Kaner. There are plenty of instances where charges are overexaggereated against athletes in hopes to get some settlement $$$.

Well, FWIW the police charged them with felony robbery, so someone beyond the cabbie thinks they did something criminal. I doubt the police or the DA would be party to the settlement money in the forthcoming civil suit.
