Any clue on what kind of arms might be available for pick up off the wire?

Chad Qualls?

Russ Springer?

Francisco Cordero (nice numbers but HUGE contract)?

Stormy Weathers?

(gulp) Kyle Farnsworth?

Scott Downs?

I've heard Heath Bell's name thrown around.

Any chance at all he'd make it through waivers? He's really cheap and really good...

Despite what Harold Reynolds say, I think it would be impossible for him to clear waivers.

I'd say close to zero chance.

Kerry Wood can clear waivers and should be available. Wood + 5 million in cash for a PTBNL would save Cleveland $5 mill and get them a prospect like Mitch Atkins or maybe Gorzelany.

Isn't he guaranteed 2 more years?

He's got a 2-year contract with a team option for 2011 that becomes guaranteed with 55 games finished between 2009 and 2010.

He's finished 33 so far this year, so that 2011 option is likely to be guaranteed.

If Ryan doesn't pan out, Scott Downs might be a nice option.

Downs, Grabow, Marshall, Guzman, Marmol, Gregg for important situations with Heilman, Stevens, and Shark in mop-up roles after the roster expands.

Except Downs recently went back on the DL after aggravating his earlier toe injury.

Qualls wouldn't be a bad pick-up either, he'd probably be the 3rd best guy out of the pen based on what they've done this year.

I would be absolutely thrilled with Chad Qualls. He would be a nice Plan B for closer when Gregg needs a night or two off, and he would allowed Marmol and Guzman to remain in their respective spots. The only problem is I don't see Qualls making it through waivers.

I didn't know about the vesting option. Though it makes the Indians even more likely to want to move him.

They'd have to really eat a significant portion of his contract to make him appealing at all.

Juan Cruz?

He started off awesome, but has really regressed.

6.25 ERA

44.2 IP

40 H

34:26 K:BB

1.478 WHIP

He's also signed through next year ($3.25 million) with a 2011 club option ($4 million).

Another possible option from MLBTR:

Marti, Gomez & Serrano Declared Free AgentsBy Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 4 at 4:49pm CST]

The agent for Yadel Marti, Yasser Gomez and Juan Yasser tells ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure Jr. that the three Cubans have all been declared free agents. Marti and Gomez defected in December and a few weeks later their agent, Jaime Torres, said his clients were big-league ready. Now the bidding can begin...

Torres tells Arangure Jr. (via Twitter) that three NL teams and two AL teams have expressed interest in signing Gomez and Marti for the stretch run. As Arangure Jr. points out, potential suitors would have to activate either player by the end of the month for them to be playoff-eligible. Apparently Marti could boost any team's rotation.

Marshall has been better than Qualls.

Let's get Farnsworth back so he can bully people around. I'm sure he still spends his time going to the gym, picking up random bar chicks and beating the hell out of Paul Wilson.
