What did Jay Jackson do? I know he had a rough few starts, but theres no reason to set back one of your top prospects unless he did something serious.

If it was indeed disciplinary reasons, that's something that's not likely to come out in the regular season. The Cubs will probably not be forthcoming with that information.

On Brett Jackson:

Boise PBP Announcer Mike Safford[/url]"]The life of the clubhouse has been taken from the Boise Hawks following tonights game - as Brett Jackson has been promoted by the Chicago Cubs to the Peoria Chiefs...no more shaving cream pies (after the one tonight to Jae-Hoon Ha), no more happy-go-lucky guy in the clubhouse, no more first-round pick in 2009.

With Gary Hughes in attendance last night (the special assistant to Cubs GM Jim Hendry), Jackson closed out his Boise career with a 4-for-5 game, upping his batting average to .330, finishing with a ten-game hit streak and reaching base in every game as a Hawk.

As much as the fans and media will miss Jackson, his abilities are more suited for the ranks of Peoria or Daytona - not short-season A ball.

Jackson got on base in every single game he played for Boise.

This probably deserves its own thread. Jay Jackson was supposedly demoted due to disciplinary reasons and pitched yesterday for Daytona. Carpenter makes his AA debut tonight.

Cal: I had assumed the demotion was for disciplinary action, so your comment that it "supposedly ... due to disciplinary reasons" is exactly as I had expected.

Quick question: is the "supposedly" your supposing? Or did you get that it was disciplinary from some other source, or Jackson's facebook or twitter or something? I'm guessing even if you know, you probably weren't told exactly how many or what infractions there were, and even if you did you couldn't share it on hyperspace.

Craig, I got it from this post:

And Jay Jackson officially demoted to Daytona. Arrrgh.

This makes no sense.

Unless it's for off the field stuff.

which it was confirmed tonight, it is

Sandbergcubs has been pretty reliable so far: he was the first I saw anywhere on the Internet to post that Andrew Cashner was promoted to AA and the first to post that Carpenter missed his start last week due to elbow pain.

The club has confirmed the reason for Jackson's demotion (from Bruce's blog):

Because some have been wondering, the Cubs demoted pitcher Jay Jackson from Tennessee to Class A Daytona because of disciplinary reasons. “Failure to comply with club policy,” is how Oneri described it.

Maybe there's a club policy against twittering. :D

Im telling you all, its TheLogans fault for posting here about Jay Jack and Patton out drinking and trying to get some road tang. We screwed up the Peavy deal in the offseason, and now we screwed up Jay Jacks pro career. Im not sure how much longer this board should be allowed to go on.

Well, this makes the demotion make a lot more sense. He had been rushed through the system, so if he was partying too much or getting a sense of entitlement, whatever it may be, then I agree with the move. Better send the message now than later. Add in that he was struggling, and it's a good time to pull that switch and make him show up.

He's looked great so far defensively at 2nd and short. couple diving plays and has shown very good range at both positions. I'll chime in on both guys after I get to see them play a few more games! You can always follow along audio wise through peoriachiefs.com as well.

Thanks

Nathan
