According to MLBTR, the Rockies asked about Grabow and Beimal, and both the Pirates and Nats asked for top propsect Eric Young Jr. in return, and I sure hope that Hendry wouldnt give up anything close to that for one of those 2.

Bradley in 2009 as a lefty: .209/.376/.343/.719

Hermida in 2009 vs righties: .274/.362/.411/.773

60 points in overall OPS. 10 points less OBP and 70 points more SLG. UZR grades them similarly this season defensively.

I see the thinking behind this and don't necessarily disagree. I wouldn't give that much for Hermida, though. Could something be worked around a Heilman for Hermida base if they want a reliever?

Career vs. RHP:

Bradley: 266/364/430/794

Hermida: 272/349/441/790

Both have been below those career numbers this season. If Bradley can produce at a .794 clip in the second half against righties, then great. But he's shown no power at all this season.

Yes, but I'm more inclined to think Bradley is still likely to rebound a bit in that department. it's not a sure thing, of course. taking into account that we'd have to give up something to get Hermida, the fact that he's limited to corner OF, the likelyhood that Bradley is going to sulk in that situation and the probablility that Hermida is most likely only a slight upgrade at best, i'm not too interested.

Like I said, I wouldn't give much for Hermida. Even though he's cheap, he's not producing at a high level overall, so it'd be difficult for the Marlins to ask for anything of significance for him. If they do, I'm not interested. But if the cost for Hermida is reasonable, then I wouldn't be opposed.

...and the Chicago Cubs have some interest in outfielder-designated hitter Luke Scott.

Teams scouting Wednesday's game between the Orioles and Royals included the Dodgers, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Cubs, the Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

While he's normally better vs. right-handers in his career, he's not completely useless against lefties. In fact, he has an OPS of .979 in just under 100 plate appearances against lefties this season.

Scott would be a guy that I would be willing to trade good talent for if the OF spots weren't already filled.

From Bruce's blog:

The Cubs are not looking to find a platoon partner for Milton Bradley. They say they like the way he’s coming around at the plate.

Great news. I believe in Milton Bradley

oh man, i'd love us to take a flier on Hermida

I would too, but I really don't know where he'd fit in with the monster contracts spread out through the OF.

Today's Tribune mentions Cody Ross as a possible RH OF who can play CF. Put Ross in CF and use Fukudome to spell Bradley.

Hey, somebody found a worse idea than trading for Teahen.

If Ross came cheap enough, a .925 OPS against lefties isn't bad at all. There would be a roster crunch when Reed returned, but he'll be back close to roster expansion, which would make it a non-issue.

The last thing the Cubs need at this point is another Reed Johnson. Fukudome slugs less against lefties, but his OBP is comparable to career averages. Fukudome is what he is, an above average defensive OF that gets on base at a good rate. Very similar to Bradley at this point. Fukudome and Bradley don't need to be replaced for the team to succeed, they need to be at the top of the order instead of guys like Johnson and Theriot.

Ross has a better career OBP vs lefties than Kosuke (.355 for Ross and .351 for Kosuke) and he slugs 260 points better. It's certainly not pressing and I wouldn't give what Ross is likely to cost, but it's not a bad idea to make a significant upgrade against lefties and improve the bench depth.

Might not be a bad idea to have those righties if we're facing the Phillies in the playoffs with their contingent of lefty starters.

I get the feeling we are going to see Jim trade guys like Fuld, Coleman, and Harrison to the Royals for Teahan. Kind of a meh deal as far as I'm concerned, but I can definitely see him doing something very similar....
Posted
The Cubs don't really need Teahan, but if we can find just one sub-300 OBP guy in the minors to offer for him, Dayton Moore would probably make the deal. Doesn't matter who.

If the outfield spots weren't filled, I'd love to kick the tires on Scott or Hermida. I just don't see how either would be worthwhile in our current (expensive) outfield situation.

Luke Scott is underrated and having a monster season. I'd take him but we have nowhere for him to play.

I'd like Ross and think he'd be useful, but there's no room for him if Reed's going to be back in a couple weeks.

Even though the Royals were facing a lefty, Mark Teahen was held out of Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Teahen to the Cubs has been getting some play, and since there's been no word of any injury, his absence could mean that a deal is getting close. With Teahen sitting, Ryan Freel started in right field today and went 0-for-4.

i would much rather have him than the trash getting mentioned in pittsburg

Maybe we are trading Gorzo and Grabow to the Royals.

I doubt they'd spin Grabow to the Royals, but I could see Kansas City having at least a little interest in Gorzelanny. Freaking Bruce Chen is in their rotation right now.

Really?

Yeah, he started against the Orioles the other night. I think Rich Hill was on the mound for Baltimore in that one.

There's a matchup I would have paid money to see.

Living in Baltimore's broadcast area, I had the misfortune of being able to watch it. I watched a couple innings, just because I like to watch Rich Hill's curveball when it's on. Unfortunately, it wasn't on.
