Made up ground against bottom of the barrel teams while St. Louis faced Houston and Philly. Lots of baseball left.

At the same time, let's be fair. The Cubs could had easily choked away aganist thoe awful teams in Washington and the Reds. They could had easily took 2 out of 3 against Philly, had that one game went towards their way.

So basically they did what good teams do, they beat the crap teams. Even still, sweeps are not an easy thing to accomplish, no matter how bad the teams are. The Cardinals have played the easiest schedule in baseball so far this year, so they were living off bottom of the barrel teams all 1st half pretty much.

Made up ground against bottom of the barrel teams while having injury after injury to deal with, while St. Louis faced Houston and Philly with a healthy team in tact.. Lots of baseball left.

Fixed for truth and accuracy. Carry on.

It feels especially good because just about every radio host has been ripping the Cubs all year for being mediocre, yet praising the White Sox for being, essentially, the same thing. This season is starting to look promising though. Let's hope the injuries subside a bit and the bats stay hot.

I think Bob said something about this today. To be a Division winner you beat the teams your suppose to beat and play well against the really good teams. there is no rpi in MLB so a sweep feels good no matter who were playin.

None of this could be possible if it weren't for the rest of the NL Central being just as mediocre as we've been. Until we retain first place for an extended period of time, I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet...

Though it is a pleasant feeling :)

It's nice to be in fisrt, but is doesn't mean much right now.

Having said that, the facts that Soriano and Bradley are showing signs of breaking out, Harden is pitching very well and ARam is raking make me feel like there is a very good chance the Cubs have a much better second half.

This team is very fortunate to be in first place, and now they just need to crank it up one more notch. If Demp and Lilly come back okay, they should still win this thing by 5 games.

I disagree. With just 66 games left in the schedule, every half-game is pretty significant.

It certainly doesn't mean as much as it would a month from now, and even less than two months from now. I'm not saying it means nothing, but it isn't worth doing cartwheels over.

The march has begun. I realize that people are concerned by the terrible first half, but now that the yips are out of the system, the Cubs are going to roll the rest of the division. If they can stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cubs quickly pass the Rockies and Phillies and flirt with catching the Dodgers.

What a pollyanna-ish thing to say.

Well, I just got dumped by my girlfriend of a year and a half. At least something good happened today! I'll be watching a lot more baseball now!
