Al on Bradley to Detroit, Cubs could get Haren?

Probably BS

http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2009/7/25/962768/trade-rumors-fly-as-cubs-win-third

Let's get started, then. As first posted by tomas21 earlier this afternoon in this FanPost, Milton Bradley may be on his way to becoming a Detroit Tiger. This rumor was confirmed to me from my own sources, so I think this possibility does have legs, and I hope it happens, sooner rather than later. You all know my position on Bradley, but I'm going to be nice here. Regardless of his numbers in the past or whether he can pick up this season to be even close to that (and it's hardly "early" any more, with 67 games remaining), I just don't think Bradley was ever a good fit as a Chicago Cub. Remember a few weeks ago when he was quoted as saying "I don't like the attention, I just like doing my job and going home"? I think being in the fishbowl of attention that comes with being a Cub -- probably more than any team except the Yankees or Red Sox -- was too much for Milton. He may have the ability within him, but I suspect he put too much pressure on himself -- that's a recipe for failure. I'd think he would be very successful as a DH and part-time outfielder in Detroit.

I have also heard that the Cubs have made inquiries about Dan Haren from the Diamondbacks -- that would be a fantastic acquisition, as Haren is currently leading the NL in ERA and WHIP. Further, I've heard that the Blue Jays have had scouts watching nearly every team in the Cub farm system over the last few days -- could the Cubs be a dark horse candidate in the Roy Halladay derby? The Phillies rejected what the Blue Jays asked from them in an attempt to get Halladay, so perhaps Toronto is looking elsewhere. With Ted Lilly out for an undetermined length of time, the Cubs not only could use the extra bat that could come by clearing Bradley's salary, but another starting pitcher has to be high on the wish list.

Not even Kraplan can beat these rumors.

Completely hypothetical....Would you give up Vitters, Jackson, Castro for Haren? Or basically would you be willing to empty the farm for Haren?

The latter, assuming we get to keep Haren and he is not just a rental. Vitters, Cashner, anything they want. He is that good.

I'm sick of "emptying the farm."

We have never really emptied the farm though. We have especially never emptied the farm for a guy like Dan Haren.

Im not sure when Haren is up for free agency, but Id be very tempted to do a empty the farm trade for him. Gregg should net us 2 1st rounders, Harden could net us picks also.

When it's one player, especially a pitcher, I really get worried about the injury risk. One serious injury and we just gave up the farm for nothing. The receving team, on the other hand, has its injury risk spread out over multiple players.

Unless the Diamondbacks are able to completely rip someone off, I can't imagine why they'd want to move Haren. He's signed for 4 more seasons (with 1 being the teams option) after this and he can regress quite a bit from where he's at right now and still be well worth his salary.

LOL! When was the last time we emptied the farm? Also whose the last prospect we traded that has actually came back to haunt us. Maybe 2 years of Dontrelle?

On the other hand I can name a bunch of guys who we held on to, that if we traded while their prospect status was high we could have got a ton for. Somebody mentioned in the spring there was a time that a deal centered around Felix Pie, Rich Hill, and Ryan Harvey could have landed you a very good major league baseball player. Then we ended up pretty much giving away all of those players.

As much as I feel like this time around the Cubs prospects will come through and live up to the hype I would not feel to sad at all to see Vitters, Castro, and Cashner in a deal that landed me a Hanley Ramirez, Dan Haren, Roy Halladay type player.

Now if its Vitters for Freddy Sanchez thats a another story.

I didn't mean in one deal. We've got a pretty bare minor league cabinet. I'd like to see us start filling it up a bit more, that's all.

Ricky Nolasco

His 5.42 ERA is haunting my dreams 8-)

The fact that few of our traded prospects have done well also suggests a lack of talent in our system, though. Correct?

I'm not sure I would be trumpeting that. I'd also want other GMs to feel like they can get good value from us when they do have something that we need.
