Who the heck is going to spot start now? Samardzija? Marshall? Dempster rejoining rotation? Our rotation looks interesting this weekend....Wells/????/Hart

this is just too much...

2009, the surprises never end

The weirdest thing is, none of these injuries lately seem to happen while playing. Dempster hurt jumping over a fence, Soto hurt in batting practice, Lillys injury disclosed between starts, etc.

I don't know if this makes any sense, but any chance that his mechanics were thrown off in his last start because his knee was bothering him, and that this contributed to him aggravating his shoulder?

If I were a gambling man I would bet you are right. We will never know though.

Dempster is the only weird one. Soto was still playing baseball, and just because they disclosed an injury between starts doesn't mean it didn't happen during a start. Odds are he was hurt while pitching, and in a game where his knee was bothering him it wouldn't be strange at all if that led to different mechanics screwing him up.

On top of all this is that it makes it harder to give extra rest to Harden. I think they will still try and have him go Monday night on extra rest. They should go ahead and use Samardzija with Marshall ready to fill-in as needed.

Is Cashner on the 40 man roster? I'm not advocating bringing him up yet, but with all of the call ups and such, if he is on the 40 man, it might make him a candidate to make the start.

He is not on the 40-man. Given the slow way they have acclimated him to starting again, and the likely length of time it will take him to become an established big league pitcher, I'd rather not burn his option, or start his arbitration clock this soon. Plus, I don't really trust Lou and his staff to use him all that smartly.

My comment wasn't that it was weird they got hurt between games because like you said they were baseball related injuries, its just weird to see all these random injuries popping up in between games. I'm used to seeing these things happen in between games, not finding out that a previously healthy person is injuries via an NSBB thread.

Id guess Dempster takes his start and Hart stays in rotation for now.

Maybe they'll move Hart up to Saturday to give Dempster the extra day and have him go Sunday like originally hoped.

According to The Cub Reporter it's Wells, Hart, Harden this weekend.

I think that's exactly what happened, actually.
