Underline Need, BIG TIME. This team needs him. We need him to step up and be the MVP caliber slugster we know he can be.

This city needs a championship. This city needs him.

This team needs a championsip. This team needs him.

We need a championship. We need him.

I need a championship. I need him.

God hates you as that could be my only reason for becoming a Cubs and Clippers fan. The only thing more exciting than Bartman reaching over in '03 is the permanent wax figure of Elgin Baylor at the NBA draft lottery.

Intersting post Cubs'nClippers1, or should I say...Alfonso Soriano.

As nice as it would be to have home runs in bunches Soriano back, what this team has to have is a decent Soriano. I want him to come up with a runner on third and 1 out and know that he can put the ball into play. Maybe drop that bat weight down a bit so he can pull back on the low slider he just can't seem to hold off of. I have no doubt that he is putting in every effort to fix this.

If Soriano gets red hot again at the right time, it could certainly help end that postseason losing streak....yeah yeah we gotta get their first I know that. #-o

I guess considering we already have Soriano, and we're paying him, then yes, we need him to hit. In general, though, I wouldn't say that Soriano is a "winning" type player. In fact, I would say he had a directly adverse effect on our chances of winning a world series in each of the last two years by doing his best Aaron Miles impression during the playoffs. I'm sure that teams like Boston and the Yankees wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

And also... Soriano is not an MVP-caliber player. IMHO, he really never was.

He came up in the Yankees' system and started for them for three seasons. He was also their leadoff hitter for two of those seasons.

He OPS+'ed 136 in 2006, with a .911 OPS while having a 40/40 season. If Dustin Pedroia's 2008 was MVP caliber, Soriano's 2006 damn sure was too.

I'm getting pretty sick of all this bitching about Soriano. People just can't seem to get the idea that complaining about someone doesn't matter. It doesn't change anything. He has the contract, so we have him for another couple of years. Might as well support him while he's here.

Are you the same guy who said he never though Sosa was a good hitter?

You and me both. Yes his contract is bad. It was bad when he signed it. It is bad now. Oh well. It is what it is. He has produced in his first two seasons here and while his 3rd season has been rocky I am willing to bet he gets those numbers back up there by September.

Oh come on. You say it as if I didn't know that. I'm just saying, there's a reason why the Yanks didn't hang onto him.

Yes. But if you want to take me too literally and miss my point, go right ahead.

I realize that I'm sort of beating a dead horse by talking about Soriano, but given the nature of the first post in this thread, I couldn't resist.

Here's the reason the Yankees didn't hang on to him....
