I watched Wuertz last night and he made the Tigers look terrible. Ugh

Gaudin destroyed the Rangers the other night. I think he gave up 2 hits and no runs through 7 innings.

1 hit them for 8 innings.

Hendry's garbage is someone else's treasure.

and he had like 11 k's the game before that.

don't worry though, the cubs have david patton, who was kinda ok for like 13 spring training innings.

Certainly okay enough to put ALL the eggs in that basket.

Chad Gaudin has not been good this year. David Patton's a waste of space, but it's not because his spot would be better served by having Chad Gaudin in it.

As spotty as Gaudin's pitching can be, he's far more valuable than Patton.

he's been friggin' pedro in his prime over his last 15 innings which is a hell of a lot more than we can say for patton.

Do you have to be contrarian about everything?

"The sky is blue"

"No it's aqua-marine"

How can anyone reasonably defend Hendry's handling of the pitching staff this year? He's incredibly lucky he caught lightening in a bottle with Wells, or his lack of foresight would really be glaring.

Did you mean to quote gooney?

I don't see why it's outrageous to point that Gaudin has been pretty bad this year, and it turns out cutting him loose was probably a decent idea. The fact that they replaced him with Patton is the issue, not that they dumped Gaudin.

McGhee' on hot streak but, let's not get carried away, he's 27 with career minor league numbers .279 BA and a .730 OPS - there's a reason he's spent 5+ years in minor league ball. He's not that good, of course, if one could have guaranteed he would have preformed in the current manner. I would have taken that in Ramirez' absence however, given his past numbers, chances are slim that would have happened. Edited by gflore34

It can be said about a lot of people.

But clarify your argument on this; Gaudin is nothing special, I won't quarrel with that, but on a team with Harden and ? at #5, is it wise to trade away guys like Marquis and Gaudin, who are at least durable and can provide some margin for error?

As I stated, were it not for Wells' amazing season, the media would giving the FO as much flak for the Marquis/Gaudin deals as they are the Derosa trade. Jim has really dodged a bullet (so far).

it's not all those guys vs. all those other guys. it's, at the very least, wuertz v. patton. i'd also argue i'd take gaudin over patton pretty clearly as well.

Marshall was doing well before he was moved to the pen. We had a good starting 5 before Wells came up.

Seriously... Andres Blanco and Bobby Scales look like minor league hitters

Casey McGehee just has that MLB player look. He's gonna be really good, we just have to hope he leaves the Brewers soon.

You gotta admit its a little funny that he's on the front of our 2009 schedules in his Cubs uni, a schedule that tells us when he'll be in town to homer against us.

PS Casey McGehee is garbage.

This has to be sarcasm...right?

McGehee's a bum that has somehow caught some of that magic formula that they usually use in STL. He'll remember he sucks again soon enough.

Casey McGehee has a .948 OPS right now in 145 PA's this year.

Ryan Theriot had a .934 OPS in 159 PA's back in 2006 and hasn't come within 150 points of that since (he's at .757 this year).

Guys can have a really good 150 PA's all the time but that doesn't necessarily mean it's their true talent level. I'm not saying that Casey McGehee = Ryan Theriot, but it's ridiculous to say that Casey McGehee is legit after 150 PA's.

Don't be mad Jim Hendry is worse than Ed Lynch and Larry Himes's lovechild as a GM. Would you rather have Aramis Ramirez or Casey McGehee. I know my answer. McGehee.

FIRE HENDRY AND Piniella! HIRE STEVE STONE AND RYNE SANDBERG AS GM AND FIELD MANAGER.

A guy suddenly figuring it out at a bit of an advanced age is always a tricky thing to figure out. To use a Cub as an example most people didn't expect Soto to be for real since it took so long for him to figure it out and he sort of came out of nowhere but that obviously worked out last season at least. Wouldn't surprise me if McGehee has a similar big season followed by mediocrity.

I personally suspect it is just some random hot streak but you just never know in this game.
