This team needs to go on a vacation or something. I hate feeling so negatively about them. I've made smartass comments in game threads many times, but those were typically me being tongue in cheek. Now I am honestly very down on the Cubs as a whole. Gonna be a long summer

I totally agree. Even the term "Cobs" isnt funny anymore. When were a good team thats on a cold streak and making some bad plays or failing to cash in our chips, its sometimes fun to joke about it, but when were dealing with what ultimately looks like a bad team on our hands, its just not funny and its more maddening. Lou needs to go, and Im not saying that in a joking way. Id rather see Ryan Freel than Mike Fontenot, and Im not saying that in a joking way.

that was a garbage call, but 1-for-15 with RISP in the game. the lack of clutch hitting is killing us.

It is. An impact bat has to be added to this lineup somehow. I'm not sure who or where, or if it's even possible, but short of that happening and Aramis providing something when he comes back, this team is toast.

This team doesn't have worst-in-baseball type talent, but they've gotten worst-in-baseball results RISP. There's got to be an easier way to fix that than bringing in an expensive player.

I agree, but I'm stumped. The gulf between being able to get guys on and then do next to nothing with them has just gotten absurd.

Its almost as though the whole team has that "anxiety disorder" that seems to be the trendy injury of choice. Its more mental than physical.

there is no reason not to see Fox as our everyday 3B until Ramirez comes back or he proves he cant do the job. We have yet to see this horrid offense everyone talks about. Yeah, he made that goofy play that a run scored on, but that ball could have just as easily made its way into the infield be it Fox, Ramirez, or Fontenot out there. He may have only got 1 hit, but he crushed to ball twice.

The Cubs are dead last in the majors in BA and OPS. Yikes.

What? they're ahead of the reds, Padres, and possibly D-Backs, and that's just the NL. And ahead of SF, Florida, and Atlanta in OPS

No.

Those are their numbers with RISP

So they are. Good catch; didn't even realize that.

Makes sense though, as the Cubs, seemingly, haven't had too many problems actually getting on base lately; the problem has been pushing baserunners across the plate.

Tonight's game has to be considered a huge success.

Rick Porcello did not set a new single game record for strikeouts.

This team will not make the playoffs again. I don't care about the actual "talent" on this team. You can have all the talent in the world, but if it doesn't perform, it's useless.

There will be no October on the North Side this year, thanks to Hendry. I've always been a Lou fan, and I'm reluctant to place the majority of the blame on him. Sure, he's made some questionable in-game decisions, but he can only use what Hendry gives him, and Hendry didn't leave him with much after that awful, awful offseason.

I think this season was given to us to teach us to appreciate a terrific regular season even if it results in a disappointing playoffs. I know I, for one, appreciate last season more now than I did 3 months ago.

It made me appreciate having a good team on the field.

call me crazy, but I still think they can. It's not like anyone is pulling away in this division.

i don't think they played all that bad last night.

Bradley narrowly missed a 3-R HR foul, Hoffpauir had a bases clearing double go just foul, and Fox nearly had two opposite field HRs. that's just bad fortune.

I still just don't get why they can't seal the deal. It's not like they're being shut down by these guys. They're getting on base and then...what? Why is everyone forgetting how to hit with RISP? It's baffling.

It's not like they are all that great at getting on in the first place. They have a .313 OBP in June, 11th in the league, and they are 12th in SLG. So they aren't getting on all that often, and when they do, they get mostly singles. They need to get on more often and hit the ball with more authority if they want to improve.

Too bad they weren't playing horseshoes. Better yet, does anyone have some hand grenades?

thats kind of a dumb ass comment

i'm not ready to bury guys because guys rip a pitch opposite field 395 feet instead of the requisite 400 feet it takes to go over the wall. the fact of the matter is they played well enough to win but didn't catch the breaks. not sure why people are focusing solely on the result and extrapolating from that.

Ask the 2007 Dbacks about playing over their potential. They were like 20 games over their pythag and made the playoffs that year where they beat our asses. The Angels were 12 games over their pythag last year as well.

The results are really what matters. If a guy on my team has a 2.00 WHIP and 4.0 K/9 but miraculously ends up with a 2.00 ERA and a 20-2 record, that's fine with me. Obviously the long term results probably won't be good, but who cares?

i'll do this discussion a favor and ignore that first paragraph of nonsense.

you seem to be in agreement with me here. you're admitting if you pitch badly but get otherworldly lucky your success probably won't last very long.

similarly, if guys keep hitting moonshots a few inches foul or blasting 400 ft opposite field flyouts, these guys should start finding the bleachers/avoid gloves when luck evens out.
