Put Bradley on the DL and let him fully recover (or at least whatever passes as "fully recovered" for him), then bring him back right after the All-Star break. Perhaps he can have a productive half season and contribute to the pennant drive.

Doesn't Milton have a games-played clause this season that guarantees the final year of his contract? I'm guessing he'd be against going on the DL so he can reach that limit.

From everything I've read there's really very little chance he won't hit that number of games. They could probably put him on the 60-day DL and he'd still make it. Taking one month off isn't going to lose him money.

I think he only needs to play in 75 games each year to guarentee the third. He'd likely easily hit that if he did a 14 or 30 day DL stint. They gotta put him on either one until he can get as close back to 100% Bardley-style he can be because right now it looks like he can't do squat and like he's playing in pain.

There's no such thing as 14-day or 30-day DLs. Major league DLs are 15 or 60 days. They could put him on the 15-day DL and keep him out 30 days (there's no rule that a player has to come back immediately when eligible).

Does he really have the right to refuse to go on the DL if he really is injured? We're not talking about a phantom injury to allow another player to be called up; as long as the player really is less than 100% I'd think the team would have the right to place the player on the DL even against the player's wishes.

Possibly you were thinking of minor league DLs; they have more options. I know there's a 7-day DL in the minors; I don't know about 14 or 30.

Sure, they'd have the right, but he'd also have the right to bitch about it and claim that it was an effort to prevent him from reaching his games played clause instead of for baseball reasons. Not that I think that would really happen, considering how easily he can reach that clause.

I'm going to chalk it up to me not knowing what the hell I'm talking about.

He only needs to play in 75 games this year to vest the option. Next year doesn't matter.

But it has to be this year, right? Let's say he's falls short this year but somehow manages to play in something nuts, like, 140 games next year: no 3rd year?

That's my understanding of the clause. Of course, if Bradley played 140 games in 2010 the odds are pretty high that the Cubs would pick up the option.

Right. That's my understanding as well.

i get the feeling that if bradley plays much next year, it will be more of the same. i have not seen much of anything from him when he was reported to be "100% healthy".

it was a bad deal from making that clause too easily achievable to just signing an injury prone 30 year old to begin with.

You're right that he could claim that, but given his injury history I doubt any arbitrator that might have to rule on a grievance would believe him.

Hahahahaha brilliant game today Milt. You are making Jacque Jones look like a baseball genius

Admit it, you miss the 12-bounce throw to 2nd base.

That's giving Jacque a little too much credit - half the time he'd throw the ball so hard into the ground that it would just sorta stick there.

Milton Bradley has been placed on the 15 day disabled list, to recover his broken pride, along with learning how to add.

Don't forget about his airmailing the catcher on occasion as well.

Thank heavens he and Moises were never on this team at the same time.

But, hey, maybe he can hit during the playoffs....

...in a cage...in Arizona...while the rest of the Cubs are watching on TV.

Good thing he's crazy though. Maybe Milty just had a few too many of these before yesterday's game.

Crap on Jacque Jones all you like. His 2006 was one good season for the money, which is one more good season than Bradley will ever have for us. 27 home runs might be more than Bradley hits over the entire life of a contract.

And his arm in right was bad but at least he could get run to first base without needing a wheelchair three quarters of the way down.

I'm not so much defending Jones as pointing out that pretty soon we will be talking about them synonymously. The enlightenment is going to be painful for some. It's better if you don't fight it, because, as Family Guy so wisely stated, it's like sex with Kobe Bryant, you can fight and kick and scream but it's still going to happen.

So lay back, close your eyes, and pretend it's actually a right fielder you like. I'm imagining that handsome, non-threatening Andre Ethier.
