This is amazing. All of a sudden something clicked for Federer. Davydenko had a couple break chances in the second to go up two breaks, couldn't take advantage and it's been all Federer since. Federer won the second set 6-3 and just broke Davydenko to start the third set.

Physically impossible for Federer to lose before the semifinals. Either that or Davydenko is fixing matches again.

i think davydenko gave up.

And now he's woken up. He must have money on himself winning the fourth and the match going five sets.

so is it generally assumed that he was throwing that match and they just couldn't find any proof of it?

That's what I've always thought. He pulled out of a match against some scrub and there were millions of dollars wagered on him losing - way more than what's normal for total bets on a tennis match and I think it came after he won a set or was up in the match, though I might be wrong on that.

Got to give credit to Davydenko in this thing. He put up a great fight and I can't believe he actually got back into it after Federer rolled off the 13 straight games.

23 straight Grand Slam semifinals for Federer.

Murray looked pretty good in downing Cilic, though Cilic seemed to get worse as the match went on which would have been due to playing back-to-back five setters against Del Potro and Roddick in the two rounds before and a third five setter in the second round.

The final should be good regardless of who wins the Federer-Tsonga match. I expect Federer to win but Tsonga's got the potential if he's serving well to knock off anybody.

I really like watching Tsonga play.

I think you are right, but what company lets people bet after the match has already started?

Plenty do that. They just adjust the odds based on what's already happened. That's why it was so suspicious. Davydenko won the first set fairly easily so the odds were tipped even more heavily in his favor, especially since it was probably a best of three set match. You could get great odds betting on an big underdog to win when he's already dropped the first set.

I'm about half an hour behind on the match but Federer is up a set and 3-2 in the second and this is some old school Federer's Funhouse. He's lost eight points on seven service games and is pretty much doing what he wants on the court.

The start for Federer is the exact opposite of the Davydenko match.

As I type this, Federer got a break in the second set and this thing is all but over. I guess Tsonga is one of the worst players in terms of breaking an opponents serve out of the top 20 players.

murray has looked very good. the final should be an excellent match.

Hopefully, I could see this thing going 5 sets or Murray losing 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2. If he falls behind he can't get down on himself.

As expected, the women's final has been pretty entertaining. Serena won the first set but Henin came back and won the second set, rattling off 15 straight points at one point. It's now 1-1 in the third set. There aren't many women on tour who aren't intimidated by the Williams sisters but Henin is one of them. Should be a good third set.

Serena's also apparently 40-0 at the Aussie Open when winning the first set.

Murray's not playing poorly but Federer is on his game right now and up two sets. I was hoping Murray would put up more of a fight - and he still might - but oh well. It's still been an entertaining match.

EDIT: Epic third set tiebreaker. You don't see many that go 13-11. Great effort from Murray in the third set but he just didn't have enough.

When Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon a few years ago, a lot of people thought that a changing of the guard had occurred. I had a feeling Federer was not going to slip into the background so quickly. Now two more for Federer to tie Navratilova's record. Edited by Wilson A2000

Early tennis season bump...Roddick just beat Nadal. That doesn't happen very often, so I thought it was bump-worthy.

French Open!

So, Roddick has had his serve broken 7 times so far in the second round, and leads 2 sets to 1.

Roddick out in straight sets in the third round. Not surprising at all though it's sort of an accomplishment because he's only made the third round in three of nine French Opens. His career records in the majors are hilarious - at least 30 wins in each of the other three but only nine in the French.

Federer goes down to Soderling in four sets in the quarterfinals. His consecutive semifinals reached streak ends at 23.

I'd say this streak, not his grand slam titles record, is the more unbeatable mark just because it requires you to be so consistent and healthy to do it. The previous record was 12 and Sampras never made it to more than three straight semis (his best quarterfinal streak was only 10).

How many majors do you guys think Nadal is going to end up with?

He's got seven already and just turned 24 and is two ahead of where Federer was (five) at his 24th birthday, though Federer rattled off three majors during both his Age 24 and 25 calendar years as well as three more at Age 27.

The biggest thing for Nadal is health. If he's healthy, I think he has to go nuts and win at least four more French Opens (maybe more) which would put him at 11. I think he can get another Wimbledon or two which makes 13. He won the Aussie Open once, but he always struggles on hard courts (relatively speaking, of course) and that's the only final he's made. I think he's got an outside shot at where Federer is at now but probably finishes with 13 or 14, right around Sampras.

Health is obviously the biggest concern for him.

Buh?

Wow.

But of course the guy he is playing probably strained his groin.
