so, are the days of the big servers/no ground stroke players finished at wimbledon?

and i'm not saying federer is one of those players, obviously, he's just some jerk that's really good at tennis and has absolutely no marketability in the US.

Still don't get your hatred of Federer, not exactly a jerk.

I still don't don't trust Nadal's health which has been the case now for more than 2 years when I predicted Djokovic to surpass him.

Yep, that's the main thing that would hold him back.

Anyone watching Soderling and Federer? Soderling had a chance to go up a break when Federer's forehand landed on the line and was called out. Soderling didn't give it much of a return and Federer challenged the call. He won it and the chair umpire decided that Soderling had a good enough shot at returning it and awarded the point to Federer because Soderling's return was hit out. Federer went on to win the game. Unfortunate for Soderling but this is going to be a good match. Pretty windy also.

I don't really understand how they do the brackets any more but how does the #1 seed get the #8 seed in the quarterfinals where the #2 seed gets the #5?

The #1 gets the easier of the opponents. Just like the NCAA tournament. The better you are, the easier the opponent you earn.

That would be fine except how does a #2 get scheduled to play a #5 from the very beginning of the tournament in the quarterfinals. Wouldn't they be facing a #7 seed 3vs6, 4vs5? They don't reshuffle based on seeds left.

They put 1 and 2 on opposite sides, then randomly draw the 3 and 4 seeds into the 3 and 4 spots, randomly draw the 5-8 seeds in the 5-8 spots, and so on. So theoretically, the No. 1 seed could play the No. 3, 5, 9 and 17 seeds rather than the 4, 8, 16, 32.

All the tennis majors are like this.

Solid first set in Federer-Djokovic. Djokovic got an early break but Federer got it right back, then broke at 5-5 and served it out to take the first set.

Djokovic is playing decent well, though.

They just showed a clip of Agassi winning in '94. Man they hit the ball slow then. It really is amazing how hard today's players hit it. Better fitness plays apart, but today's racquets are unbelievable.

Federer's playing horribly right now. He can't get first serves in consistently to save his life and he's making a ton of errors.

He served great in the wind. I don't know what is happening today. But that was the first set he lost this tournament and is up 6-5 in the third.

I guess they didn't wash the towels first. They are shedding over Nadal and Djokovich's faces.

This has been a sloppy match but it's been fun to watch.

Fitting it ends on a Federer forehand error. Good god was he pathetic on his groundstrokes today.

And congrats to Novak. You'll be Nadal's sacrificial lamb tomorrow (even though I'll be rooting for you).

no one in this country cares about nadal, they want to see an american, and i don't blame them. i'd imagine tennis does much better when americans succeed.

I'm more interested in Nadal than Federer. I even switched over to the match last night during the last set to catch him winning the title. That's a big deal for me, but in fairness the Jets/Ravens game was pretty lackluster.

I do want to see an American though.

PTI discussing whether Nadal could surpass Federer's grand slam total. That is going to be awfully hard. Even though Nadal is possibly the most fit person to ever play tennis, because he doesn't have a huge serve the points are so long and I think he will get worn out over time. How many grand slams did Federer have at Nadal's age?
Posted
Nadal is 24 and has 9 grand slams. Federer through age 24 had 5 grand slams(and won 3 in both his age 25 and 26 years).

How would you rate the competition Nadal is facing compared to the competition Federer faced in route to his grand slam total?
