Isner not going quietly vs. Murray. Won the third set after losing the first two, and now trying to send the 4th to a tiebreaker.

EDIT: 4th set is in a tiebreaker now.

Big 4 all into the semis again. It's amazing how good and consistent they are because the depth in the men's game is pretty good right now.

I'm pulling for Djokovic just to see him finish the type of season he is having. I do feel this one is more up in the air than any other Major we have had in a while.

I think Nadal gets by Murray relatively easily (four sets with Nadal winning the first two). Federer-Djokovic, I have no idea. Djokovic won at the Aussie and Federer won at the French, with both matches being close. I'm thinking Djokovic in four also to set up what should be a great final. If Federer and Nadal win, however, it would be their first ever meeting at the U.S. Open. I'll be rooting for the Federer-Djokovic winner in the final.

On a related note, are Nadal and Federer ever going to be on the same side of the bracket (or even Djokovic/Nadal)? I know it hasn't been able to happen for a while since Nadal and Federer have been 1-2 in some order for forever. The last time Nadal and Djokovic were on the same side was the 2010 French, when Nadal was 2 and Djokovic 3. Since then, six straight majors where Federer and Djokovic would meet in the semis if both advanced that far (the U.S. Open is the fourth time both have).

Federer-Djokovic going to a fifth set. Federer won the first two but Djokovic took the third and fourth (the latter fairly easily).

Nice choke by Federer blowing two match points and being unable to serve it out.

Hopefully Djokovic can take care of business against Nadal in the final.

Djokovic hit one of the biggest forehand returns I have ever seen on match point. I thought it was out at first. But in that situation with that pressure, it was unbelievable. Federer couldn't hit a winner the last three or four games it seemed. He thought he had the match and seemed to go into total shock after Djokovic was able to save match point. Never seen Federer play so defensively the last three or four games.

Serena got crushed today in the women's final 6-2, 6-3. During the match she hit a forehand and yelled "Come on" as Stosur was reaching down with her backhand. The chair umpire awarded the point to Stosur even though Serena won the point because of the scream during Stosur's shot. "During the changeover two games later, Williams continued to talk to Asderaki [the chair umpire], saying, "You're out of control. ... You're a hater, and you're just unattractive inside. ... And I never complain. Wow." Yep Serena you never complain.

Yeah, I just saw this on the morning news.

She's way too old to still have these juvenile outbursts. Time to grow up a bit.

Compared to her father, she never complains.

23 games have been played so far today and the server has only won 11 of them. Djokovic has won 15 games with 8 coming on Nadal's serve and half of the games Nadal has won have been on Djokovic's serve. Nadal has served 12 times in the match and has held only four of those games.

EDIT: And of course Nadal breaks again. 3-3 now in the third set with Djokovic taking the first two sets. The match is at 2:40 already and if it somehow goes to a fifth set, they'll be pushing five hours on the court.

Nadal got lucky in the third because he was able to break Djokovic three times and took the set in a tiebreaker.

He hasn't broken Djokovic yet in the fourth and because he still can't hold, he's down 5-1.

EDIT: Djokovic wins in four. It's the 16th time a player as won three or more Grand Slams in one year. Amazingly enough, five of those instances have come in the last eight years.

ATP Championships next week, with the top 8 now set after today at Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, Federer, Ferrer, Berdych, Tsonga and Fish.

However, the first alternate isn't yet settled, because if John Isner wins the tournament (he's tied a set a piece with Ferrer right now in the quarters, and Djoker/Nadal/Murray are already out), he'll jump from 24th to 9th and be the first alternate.

I think we can finally put to rest the Novak Djokovic had the greatest season in men's tennis hitory talk now.

He's finished 70-6 and didn't advance out of his group at the year-end championships. Yes he won three majors and had a great year but it doesn't touch Federer's 2006 (out of recent years). He went 92-5 including 27-1 in the majors (lone loss was to Nadal in four sets in the French final). He played in 17 tournaments, made 16 finals and won 12, also winning the year-end championships (beating Nadal along the way).

Anyone watching the Monfils match right now?

Monfils got hurt early in the first set and ended up losing the first two sets. But he battled back to win the third and fourth and it's now 4-4 in the fifth set. Really entertaining match.

We've already got Nadal-Berdych set as a quarterfinal with the potential for Federer-Del Potro on the same side as well as Murray-Tsonga and Djokovic-Ferrer on the other side.

I've said it before, but I love how deep men's tennis is right now.

people here had high hopes for tomic. aussies are the biggest homers ever, in pretty much every sport.

they had high hopes for sam stosur (who did win the us open last year) but she [expletive] the bed in the first round.

To be fair, I thought Tomic might beat Federer. Certainly thought it would have been closer than it was

Federer rolls Del Potro in three sets.

Not as exciting a match I would have expected but it was still high quality tennis. Del Potro didn't play poorly at all as Federer simply outplayed him. Federer came out hot and never really let up. Del Potro only had six break chances and four of them came in one game so he never really had a chance to take over the match or even it up once Federer got ahead.

Some early drama in the Nadal-Berdych match. Berdych led the first set 6-5 and was up 40-0 on Nadal's serve. He blew the game and it went to a tiebreaker. With the tiebreak even at 5-5, Berdych hit a shot that was out but not called as such. Nadal returned the ball and Berdych hit a winner, after which, Nadal tried to challenge. The chair ump correctly didn't allow the challenge but they showed the shot spot and it was out. Instead of Nadal having a set point at 6-5, it was Berdych who had the set point and capitalized to win the first set.
