There's also the fact that with the mutiny that's building (and will continue to build if we keep slipping) that they need SOMETHING positive to tell us. A new owner vowing to kick teeth in this offseason would sure make the natives a little less restless.

Do. Not. Believe.

They've cried wolf far too many times.

I believe it this time, why else do you think we got the Hendry is sad pic and article saying he's taking the blame? He's alreadying positioning himself.

Values franchise at 845 or values his 95% share at 845?

WGN radio is reporting the Ricketts family signed a firm agreement today.

The Chicago Cubs will have a new owner, and it's who everyone expected it to be back in January.

Tribune Co. said Friday that it signed an agreement to sell the iconic franchise to the Ricketts family. The family is paying about $800 million to acquire a 95 percent interest in a package of assets: the team, Wrigley Field and Tribune Co.'s 25 percent stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago, which broadcasts many Cubs games on cable television.

The agreement values the franchise and related assets at $845 million, less than the Rickett's winning bid in January of $900 million. Tribune Co. will retain a 5 percent ownership stake in the joint venture.

Kenney on ESPN1000 - Still has to get through bankruptcy court and still has to get league approval

So basically its where it has been for a while now.

No.

Wow. I can't believe it's finally gone through. Very cool. Let's hope the owners vote on it in October and the Ricketts take over control at the end of October, early November. I'm excited to see what the Ricketts will do with the team.

the Tribune article says the Rickets are paying 800 Million for 95% of the team, 25% of CSN Chicago & Wrigley Field.

Rickets will be paying 100 million less than their 900 million dollar bid. What a bargain.

Nah, there was no firm contract in place for a deal up until today. Now that a deal is in place, this can move through the BK court and get league approval in a relatively short period of time. We'll see what the timeline looks like in the near future.

I agree with maybe 3 of those.

I got about 5-6.

It's ridiculous that we don't have a video board anywhere in the stadium. It's 2009, not 1959.

The Cubs don't need a Jumbotron to "affect the energy level of the crowd." Cubs fans don't need huge "Get Loud!" signs to tell them when it's an important situation in the game and when the crowd needs to get loud.

That I agree with, but I just want a replay board. Is that too much to ask for?

Yea, no. Not at all.

Thank Crane, tell him good-bye

Kenney helped generate revenues at Wrigley Field, and the Captain Morgan Club is a huge success. Thanks. But he also oversaw ticket-pricing changes that forced the average fan to stay at home and watch the Cubs on TV. Many are fortunate to be able to attend one game with their family. Kenney desperately wants to turn Wrigley Field into Fenway Park. Sorry, but this is Chicago, not Boston. Later.

LOL moron

Honestly, a video board wouldn't bother me if it were used for baseball information only. I hate the hat dances, noise-o-meter, etc. I hate that they have that crap on the digital scoreboard under the real scoreboard now. If it takes attention away from the field, then I don't want it. If you're bored between innings sometimes even ABs then go somewhere else.

I found it ridiculous that he mentioned that it helped pump the Dodgers faithful up. Isn't Wrigley pretty wild on its own?
