Iowa got a big '10 commit from Zach McCabe today. He was blowing up this summer and received offers from Minnesota, Virginia, Arizona State, Northwestern, Utah and others. Some saying he may sneak into top 100.

Obviously not on par with Illinois and others at the top of the conference but at least Lickliter has beaten out quality programs and a lot of high-majors for the 2010 class.

Larson is top 100-150 by some and had offers from Gonzaga, Nebraska, Baylor and smaller schools.

Brust had offers from Stanford, Northwestern, Butler, a lot of mid-majors and Virginia was close.

Marble Jr. had Providence, Michigan was supposed to offer on his visit and a lot of mid-majors.

At least some hope for a middle of the pack finish in 2010 with Cole, Gatens, Tucker, Fuller as upperclassmen and some decent talent in the freshman and sophomore classes. With the Big Ten improving it will still be a hell of a struggle but it should beat the last 2 seasons plus next year.

Seems like once they get there they don't like playing for Lickliter though. It's been a rough start for him there, but I still think you made a good hire.

Yeah that's definitely an issue.

Outside of Jermain Davis (who for some reason thought he was going to be playing in a fast-paced system) all of the unhappy guys were Alford recruits. They'll be really bad this year and finish in the bottom 3, but I think they'll grow more than they did last year just because they have guys that want to play for him and in the system.

Losing Kelly hurt though. The kid could play.

or not.

I have the Big 10 favored in 6, ACC in 5.

Virginia over PSU

Purdue over Wake

Maryland over IU

Northwestern over NC St.

UNC over MSU

Va Tech over Iowa

Illinois over Clemson

UM over BC

MN over Miami

Duke over Wisky

OSU over FSU

The only games I'd be shocked to see the Big 10 win are IU or Iowa. Only game I'd be shocked to see ACC win is Wake(though NU should really be embarrassed if they lose to NC St.)

Is Va. Tech supposed to be good? The only thing I know about them is they lost Vasallo and they look like they were dominated by him and two other guys last year.

And yes I know we'll be bad.

For anyone with Big Ten Network and CBS College Sports Station, they have a barrage of games from last year playing all morning. Just had Penn St/Iowa (which knocked PSU out of the NCAA Tournament) and Butler/Louisiana St. Now, they have Ohio St/Northwestern and Northern Iowa/Purdue. All were good games for those interested in catching some College Basketball now.

Yeah, but we'll have home court advantage. So that....means nothing.

You think a freshman-laden Illinois team is a favorite to win at Clemson early in the year?

I think Clemson lost more to a team that finished ranked lower than Illinois did. If Richardson can play defense from the word go, they should win.

I think only 2 of the top 7 players in the Illini's rotation next year will be freshmen. I'm guessing we will start.

1. McCamey

2. Richardson

3. Legion

4. Davis

5. Tisdale

With Keller and Paul the first two players off of the bench. I'm not sure we will see a lot of Griffey and Bertrand this year. Griffey has Cole and Simpson in front of him, and Bertrand is the last guard on the roster right now (sidenote: I love Bertrands game, I just hope he can get minutes and become a starter in the coming years).

Bertand's gonna be very good, but yeah I don't see the minutes for him right now.

This question is geared more towards the Illinois fans, but others feel free to chime in. I was just wondering what your impressions are of how 2011 recruitment is going? TA was a great get, but it seems like we have lost some momentum lately.

The stuff going on with Shaw and Blackshear is really concerning to me, and personally I'd rather we just avoid both of them. I was really high on Shaw becoming an Illini earlier in the recruitment cycle, but from what I've read its looking like there are some other factors at play. Blackshear has always been cool on the Illini, so I was never too worried about him. I just don't like the fact that his influence seems to be really strong on Shaw.

Egwu appears to be the key to the class right now. We need a big man and he looks like the only one on our radar for 2011. This really worries me. Have any of you heard anything about other Center prospects for '11?

I think it's a bit early to get concerned about 2011 prospects.

Things change so much on a weekly basis, that it's hard to put stock in. The thing is it feels like we've been on these kids forever and haven't made it anywhere since they've been all we have to look to since we locked up 2010 a year ago. With the absurd depth in Illinois in 2011, I'm confident we'll wind up with another top 10 class.

I haven't hit the panic button by any means, and I think you are right that we will end up with a great class. It's still early in the cycle, so a lot can happen. Egwu is really high on us, but we need to explore contingency plans IMO. I don't want Bruce to get back to waiting while kids jerk us around.

Best case is a class of: TA, Beal, Shaw, Randle, and Egwu

What I think we will get is something like: TA, Randle, Siakam, Williams, Egwu

shaw and blackshear can go to hell. if they're too good for the illini then fine, we have the best player in the state out of that class already. i'm not really too high on randle. beal and thompson are the keys to the class. if we get them, we're top 10.

Isn't Beal all but a lock for Florida? I also thought that Thompson wants to go play with Michelle Obama's brother in Oregon St. But, yeah I am not too worried we got the point guard. There is a lot of talent in state to plug in around him and still get a very good class for '11.
