NU hit 20 of 47 3 pointers last Sunday and made just 6 of 25 with a bunch of missed FTs today, but still beat Stanford. A home game against Central Connecticut State stands in their way of entering Big Ten play with a 10-1 record, which will set up a likely 12-1 non-conference record after games at home against Texas Pan-American (January) and Chicago State (March).

Thankfully Butler pulled it out today against Xavier.

Pac-10 futility watch:

USC leads Tennessee 33-20 at halftime at home. Could finally be a good win for the conference.

Barring that, ASU plays San Diego State tonight, and they're favored. SD State is a quality MWC team, and would easily count as a top 50 win also.

Remind me, which school did Cal leave on probation?
UMass and Memphis. He was coach at UMass several years ago when they made the Final Four (I believe that was the year UK won the national championship under Pitino).

Let's be more specific here. I'm pretty sure it's every school he's ever coached at and left.

Stanford is not a bad team, either. They only averaged 11 TOs per game coming into today, and NU forced 18 or something.

Well, ND had to beat UCLA and they did. Sluggishly, but they did. Barring a disaster against Bucknell, 11-2 OOC. The Northwestern loss doesn't look so bad anymore, though I'm still annoyed about it.

I'm not too worried about whether ND makes the dance or not. I'm just excited to watch some conference basketball.

Stanford really isn't a good team this year. They have 2 home losses already to not great teams, and a bad loss at San Diego as well, coupled with zero decent wins. Their best effort was an OT loss to Kentucky on a neutral floor.

I think Northwestern finally makes it this year. Unless Iowa finds a way to play basketball somehow in the Big Ten and make a miracle run, Northwestern will probably be my de facto favorate team.

No, they're not good, but they're also not bad.

Unfortunately, the start of the Big Ten season won't be kind to NU.

@ Illinois

vs. MSU

non-conference break against Texas Pan-American

@ Michigan

vs. Wisconsin

vs. Purdue

@ Ohio State (woo Gus Johnson)

vs. Illinois

@ Minnesota

@ Michigan State

We'll certainly lose some momentum, but it gets easier after that with 2 against Penn State, 2 against Iowa, 2 against Indiana, and a home game against Michigan. Also home against Minnesota and @ Wisconsin. And I won't complain about only getting Purdue and Ohio State once.

And speaking of mediocre Pac-10 teams, USC beat Tennessee by 22.

Both schools vacated final fours, but I don't think either one was placed on probation.

Guess I should've said on offense.

Tis and Davis have been abused on the glass.

DMac is playing really well on offense.

It's reminding me of what Turner did to us in their near comeback last year. Just constant high screen and drive at will.

I am starting to think he might play in the NBA. He's improved a bunch.
