This is the first year I might not get Iowa season tickets. I really like watching football on TV while drinking as opposed to in the corner of the stadium with a terrible view, not drinking.

college football saturdays at home are amazing. another recommendation - get at least one more tv from your house, put a splitter on your cable, set up at least one other TV to watch games on saturday. the last couple of years my buddies and i have had 3 TVs going (i have an entertainment center so we put the best game on the big-screen HDTV and then two other games on the other TVs).

I am aching for the season to start. I don't know if I've ever missed college football this much.

On another scheduling note, it looks like a 2010 game between ND and Tulsa is all but a certainty. They were also in talks with TCU for a while for a 2010 home game.

I hate this new scheduling business, but at least they're seeking out high-quality non-BCS conference opponents. A 2010 schedule that involved Utah, TCU and Tulsa would have been actually pretty interesting.

Front row season tickets have arrived. Now all I have to do is wait another 42.5 days.

Northwestern?

If so, see you there.

On a personal note, I'm so glad the CSU/CU game is on a Sunday this year... Colorado State & Northwestern are my 2 teams, and I hate when they play at the same time (rarely happens b/c of time zones) thus me missing one of them live.

Jon, if you do get NU season tickets, were you at the Smashing Pumpkins event before the Illinois game?

Yeah, NU. I was not at the event, but I saw pictures of it.

I really, really want Florida to crash and burn this year. I am sick and damn tired of hearing about Tebow.

i think we all want florida to suck, but unfortunately they're probably going to be really good again, unless Football Jesus gets hurt.

I guess I'll be in the minority here (and a lot of other places) but I just can't hate Florida or Tebow. I wanted Florida to get bombed in the championship game, but as far as hating Tebow...nah, I can't do it. It wouldn't surprise me if Tebow spends 90 percent of his NFL income on feeding poor people.

Tebow will spend $20,000 feeding poor people?

Illinois and Northwestern appear to be seriously kicking around the idea of playing at Wrigley in 2010. I think this would be awesome, as long as it eats up NU's home game. If College Gameday were to go to Wrigley for the game it would be amazing.

I don't understand the appeal.

Neither do I, who the hell wants to watch those two schools ;-)

Touche, but somebody's going to pay him. He'll be the first multi-faceted offensive white guy in the NFL since they played with leather helmets.

Two mediocre Big Ten teams? I'm sure GameDay will have about 30 better options.

I could see him being a first round pick. Not as a QB, though.

oh, awesome. people are talking about sec football again.

anyone surprised that everyone's opinion is that the new SEC network is BETTER than the Big Ten Network?

I've heard it's faster, hits harder, and will recruit better analysts. Also, the Big Ten Network sucks in bowl games

We do know that the SEC network will also pay its players more money too.

Similar ideas with, likely, different results. With Tebow's frame and athleticism he could play just about anywhere (save for either line or the secondary) and be productive - though there would obviously be developmental time whatever position he played in the NFL.

I could see a team like the Patriots or someone without a great deal of needs picking him late in the first round just based off his athletic ability.

Oh for eff's sake, give me a break. Let's stop pretending that Tim Tebow is some once-in-a-generation athlete who could magically compete at "most" positions in the NFL. There are probably two dozen more "athletic" players on his own team. He's a tall guy with a pretty strong arm who plays in a gimmick offense and occasionally gets his nose bloodied when he falls across the goal line from a foot out.

Someone's been drinking the Meph Kool-Aid....

Matt Jones ran a sub 4.4 40. Tebow wont come close to that number. He's a big strong qb who is a smashmouth runner. I dont think he is all that nfl athletic non qb wise. Even for a TE i question his speed and if he isnt a fast TE him as a blocking TE isnt all that grand of an idea either. FB? thats the most worthless position in football. Im not as fast as throwing him out as qb just yet, he wont be a high draft pick but as a backup/project he is worth a selection. There are some really crappy qbs in the league now so its not like there is a lot of class he has to beat out.

Nah, Meph has nothing to do with it. He has the frame (6'3", 240) and the speed (4.69 entering college, according to Rivals) to be a good tight end, the only question is his hands and his blocking ability. He'd be a very good full-back/H-back prospect and if he's strong enough he could get some reps as a tailback as well, though that's less likely. He could also be seen as a big, possession type receiver if his 40 time improves some and if he has the hands.

I'm not saying he'd be a #1 receiver or a feature back out of college, but he could easily be a first day pick as a hybrid of sorts. First round may be a bit optimistic and isn't likely, but if he impresses at the combine at drills other than quarterback-specific, it's a possibility.
