This thread kind of died. Allow me to update it. Rasmus, in fact IS the real deal. Since Ankiels' fateful meeting with that wall, LaGenious has been forced to play the kid. He is the real deal.

Not only is he the 2nd best hitter on the team, he is the best fielder as well. While Dunkiel are jumping, sliding and crashing into walls, Ras is as smooth as silk and has yet to have to leave his feet or get one grass stain on his uni. He never misses a cutoff man or throw to the wrong base.

Look at his June offensive stats, guys. You may be impressed.

My only gripe is his lack of walks. He was known for his patience and discipline at the plate and early on he displayed it, but not so much the last month and a half.

Other than that, he's been very productive for a first year player.

look i think the guy will be a solid player. not necessarily what people thought he could be after the (TL-inflated) 2007, but a .275-.280 EqA CF who adds 10 runs or so with the glove. i just don't see him as an elite defensive CF or a great offensive player. but if he's as good as grady sizemore with the glove and 80% the offensive player, i'd sure as hell take that if i were a cards fan.

That's in 32 at bats. I am capable of going on a 32AB hot streak. His May stats are pretty fugly...though granted, also in limited at bats.

My praise of the guy isn't based just on stats, Enn. After the 1st couple of games you could see his skills...he takes what appears to be an easy swing and the ball carries to the track, hits to all fields and A+ glove.

He is a mini 5 tool player. (where as Ankiel is a 2 tooler, and Duncan is a -2 tooler!)

I find it funny you didnt post anything about him while he was 2-25 a week or so ago.

Why would someone who is asserting that Rasmus isn't bad post when he's playing badly.

OH HEY GUYS, NM, HE Sox. MY BAD.

And then two weeks later,

OH HEY GUYS, NM, HES GOOD. MY BAD.

Nothing in his track record points to bad. Everything points to him being a pretty good to really good player at some point.

i think the point was that we don't need an update every time the guy does something good.

Well I'm in agreement with that.

Although Maybin still has the higher ceiling, it frustrates me that him in the minors and Rasmus doing well has made me look wrong.

Out of curiosity, why do you think Maybin has the higher ceiling?

I've never seen anyone say Maybin has a higher ceiling, but okay.
