I suppose we have to wonder if there was more to the DeRosa trade than we know. Before the Peavy deal was brought up, nobody even though about trading him. Lou loved him, he was popular among team mates and fans. Hell, I remember how hard he was lobbying for them to resign Dempster. He clearly never had any inkling that hed be leaving town. Then the Peavy talks started, and DeRosa was to be part of a 3 team deal. Well, as we know, the Peavy deal fell through, and they couldnt railroad DeRosa out of town fast enough. Could there have been some harsh dialogue between DeRosa and Lou and/or Jim between the Peavy talks and when he was rushed out of town for some borderline pitching prospects?

Derosa is easily the biggest mistake of the offseason. I wouldn't have thought the impact would be this large, and with a healthy team, it still probably wouldn't be this apparent. But with all of our injuries (other than catcher) being in positions that Derosa could play, and had played for the Cubs, it really shines a spotlight on what a bad move that was.

Now that Heilman's decieving ERA is gone, we can now admit that he has not been good. 8/6 BB/K. That's a whole lot of suck right there.

If this team misses the playoffs, it's time for Hendry and Lou to go, period. It's clear that this mix is not winning a championship.

the worst move (even worse than DeRosa was Hendry being the moron he is literally traded Jason Marquis for NOTHING. Marquis was not the best but he for sure was not the worst. We get a reliever that he then releases 2 weeks into the season.

On a happier note, we got three guys who will probably never wear a major league uniform in exchange for DeRosa. Woohoo!

Hey, I'll trade you these 3 pieces of chewed up bubblegum for 1 piece of unused bubblegum. It's 3 pieces. Not one, not two, but three pieces. You in?

Those are definitely honorable mention, but the wors of all may have been not trading Lee.

I still don't like the DeRosa trade one bit.

But the thought that the three guys that were traded for him will likely never see the major leagues is not really right. One of them (Stevens) is pretty much a lock to reach the majors as a reliever. Another (Gaub) has a pretty good shot as another reliever, and the last (Archer) could either flame out completely or be better than the first two. Archer still also has the potential and the stuff to be a starter.

The main problem is that you typically don't want to trade players for prospects who profile as relievers. But the first two guys are still decent prospects even with their low ceilings precisely because they are very likely to be able to contribute to the major league ballclub in the future. And Archer is the classic high ceiling prospect who nobody can hit but with the question of if he can hit the strike zone often enough.

Hendry created a huge mess by trading DeRosa and Cedeno. Now he has an obligation to somehow figure out to fix the mess he created, and NOW. Hill as the only backup 3B is inexcusable. Even when Aram is able to play they need more than one backup. Gathright must go immediately in favor of a utility infielder.

Um he has a NTC and most teams probably wouldn't want the rest of his contract anyways

Part of the problem still falls on Lou and his insistence on carrying a 12 man pitching staff. We'd be better off carrying Jake Fox (or even Bobby Scales) right now than carrying David Patton.

Trading DeRosa was a mistake?

But wait, the Cubs are more "left handed" and have a player with "attitude".....that should easily equal success.

Hendry thought he would strike gold again by signing Miles after trading Derosa. A little off on that one.

The success rate of minor league relievers making it to the bigs is not very good. Most big league relievers are guys who couldn't make it as a starter, but at least was given every opportunity before being relegated to the pen.

Mark DeRosa was as valuable as the most valuable players on the roster last year. A guy who you can immediately plug into any position on the field other than the battery is valuable enough, but the guy could kind of hit as well.

And finally, Hendry made his "win now" bed and now he has to lie in it. If you are seriously in win now mode, you don't trade a valuable piece like DeRosa unless you are getting something else in return that helps you win right now.

Hendry traded DeRosa because he didn't have a no trade clause and he only hits right handed. Period.

With the money pit of the tribune gone, and nobody knowing what direction the team will go after the ownership is resolved, Hendrys true colors will start to show more than ever. God I wish hed gotten that Seattle job.

Next year, we probably lose Harden. Our rotation becomes Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Marshall, and either somone from the farm or a lesser free agent. The once the big name contracts start to run out, we'll pobably end up replacing these guys from within or more lesser free agents. Nobody thought our window would staty open forever, I just didnt think Hendry would screw it up the way he did this past offseason.

No, he wasn't as valuable as the most valuable players on the roster last year. He was certainly worth more than minor league relievers though.

I whole-heartedly endorse this message.

Has there been any word that Ricketts is going to slash payroll? If he's not - which I haven't heard anything saying he will - then we should be able to stick around a $130 million payroll.

I'd much rather have Wuertz and Ceda right now than Gregg. Wuertz could have closed just as well.

Heilman with another walk and then serves up another bomb. We're getting 2008 Heilman, not 05-07 Heilman. Good thing we overpaid to get this worthless piece of trash while we gave away a significantly better reliever for nothing.

Hendry deserves to be fired for the disaster this season is becoming. This is inexcusable.

And a home run to of all people Ryan Braun! He sucks and never hits home runs!

They should just give up now. I can't believe they are in last place and haven't even won a game yet. Unacceptable.

Nice worthless post. Are you saying that Heilman hasn't sucked this season? Are you saying that Jim Hendry's offseason moves haven't been terrible so far?
