Pretty crappy list.

Besides the sub-.400 SLG bat-only 1B/DH that everyone has already mentioned, they seemingly knock Soler for his injury problems while thinking Edwards' shoulder injury is no big deal.

Tseng and Hendricks are top 10 prospects and should be ahead of Vogelbach and Stinnett.

yeah, Edwards at 3 despite the injury is just wanting desperately to put a pitcher up there.

Taking whatever similarities you want between Vogelbach and Schwarber, a lot of Vogelbachs skill set was based on projection and BP power whereas Schwarber has actual in game, college success and power. Quite a bit different track-record wise. Vogelbach had yet to live up to any power hype. Even when he was "shredding" leagues, I think the power results always lagged behind the power projection.

At 19, in his first pro season he had an IsoP over 300. He hit 17 HR in less than 300 PA. So, he did translate the power to professional games, it just went away last year when it took him more than 550 PA to get to 19 HR and he has only 5 HR in ~250 PA this season.

so have there been any updates on Soler? Is he getting bionic legs or something?

Sounds like he's pretty much 100% healthy but they are being extra cautious,

Soler currently is rehabbing at the Cubs' complex in Mesa, Ariz., hoping to return later this month.

McLeod said the Cubs are being extra cautious with Soler's hamstring after his second DL stint in late May. They have been looking into whether he has been hydrated properly, a common cause of players with muscle-tightening problems.

"We just want him fully ready so that when he does come back he can stay out on the field," McLeod said.

While in Arizona, Soler has been able to work out and play alongside Manny Ramirez, who was in Mesa getting ready for his debut as player-coach for Iowa. McLeod said it's good for Soler and the rookie prospects to see Ramirez's work ethic.

@ProfessorParks: Still comfortably in the top ten. His ceiling remains abnormal. RT @Demarrer2790: @ProfessorParks How far has Baez fallen?

You had some comments about Baez last week and possible problems with his makeup. Can you expound? Is it a "coachability" issue that you've heard or something else?

Klaw

Coachability, some big-league-itis stuff, some "wrong crowd" stuff. He's not Almora, who's top of the charts in makeup.

David (Denver)

Kyle Hendricks - I get a lot of fellow Cub fans who say he could be a 4 because "he's been successful at every level". I've seen him live twice, and he had one pitch over 90mph in two starts. He's a fringe 5 guy at best, right?

Klaw

Fringe 5 guy at best for me too.

Steve (California)

Mets signed Conforto today for slot ($2.9M). Assuming he would have signed w/ Cubs for slightly more, who would you rather have - Conforto or Schwarber at his price tag?

Klaw

I preferred Conforto as a player, so if you're saying the difference in cost was small, I'd have taken him.

Michael (Iowa)

What's your take on Joey Martarano? I seem to recall him being a possible 1st rounder out of HS, but I can't remember a scouting report for him.

Klaw

Martarano: Wasn't a first-rounder. Had power, couldn't hit, no position.

Domingo (LA )

Jorge Soler, will he be the next Puig, Cespedes, Abreu, or is he more Leonys Martin (solid contributor)? All tools, not enough approach? ETA?

Klaw

If healthy I think he's a star, always have. But all the ABs he's missing are going to really hurt his development.

Eric W (New York)

Almora might have great makeup, but right now he's hitting an awful .241/.264/.317 at Daytona. Cause for concern?

Klaw

Concerned about the lack of walks, yes. He'll have to find an actual approach at some point soon.

I hadn't heard about this 'wrong crowd' stuff before. Am I out touch? Is Law offbase? Anyone have any insight into this?

That's news to me.

He's 21, so I'm sure he likes to go out once in a while?

From everything I've heard, Javys a really nice kid.

(FWIW I know someone who works in front office for the I-Cubs)

I can see some of the big-league-itis stuff. 9 HRs in the last 2 springs. He knows he's close, and probably feels he's very capable of producing in the majors. Hopefully, Bryant taking some of his spotlight will light a fire under him. If not, then when Manny comes to town to work with him. But I have no reason to believe he won't turn it around. He already started to a month ago, before his recent cold streak.

He needs a cagey vet like Mark Grace to show him the ropes

Exactly. Grace used to hang with Woody at Durkins back in the day (I was there too and I'm good people).

From what I've seen Almora is winning in the girlfriend department

That tends to happen with beards. Allegedly.

@BruceMiles2112: Schwarber to play a lot of LF and catch once a week or so with @KCCougars, Says Theo

@BruceMiles2112: Theo says he does not foresee Bryant coming up to #Cubs this season

@ESPNChiCubs: Kyle Schwarber will play mostly LF the rest of this yr . He will catch a little and DH then they will decide in offseason where he'll play

@ESPNChiCubs: Re Schwarber, Theo basically said if the bat warrants him on the fast track they won't slow him down by leaving him at catcher.

@ESPNChiCubs: Theo said Manny prob joins Iowa next week

you right

When I taught at Florida International University I had three or four girls in each class that looked like that. I use to stare high up at the back of the room when I taught for fear that I would get too distracted.
