don baylor and glendon rusch got booed in pregame, and gregg got booed after he walked a guy in the ninth.

Yeah, the booing was rather silly to me. Rusch had some struggles in Chicago, but with his story I have a really hard time booing the man.

 

And it's just ridiculous to boo your own players on opening day. I wasn't in support of bringing in Aaron Miles and I don't think he'll benefit the team very much by being in Chicago, but it makes absolutely no sense to boo him after two ABs this season. At least give him a chance to be awful before you boo the man.

Now see, that reeks of the Dusty Baker mentality that said, "I don't care what his numbers were in previous years with other teams, I need to see him with my own eyes before I can judge." You should either be against booing Miles or not. Saying you can't boo him because he's had only 2 AB's is wrong.

Jacque was booed because he was absolutely the wrong fit for the team, fans knew it, he started horribly (offensively and defensively) and bitched about the fans. Latroy had a reputation for being a good reliever but choker in the closer's role before he became a Cub, and when that reputation appeared to be validated very early on, people didn't forgive.

 

Regardless of your stance on booing, it doesn't make any sense to criticize people for not giving a veteran acquisition enough time. Veterans have enough of a track record to judge

their ability to contribute. I don't need 100 PA to figure out my feelings about Neifi Perez.

I don't expect fan behavior was "typical" at that game.....they had over an hour of extra drinking time before the intros even started. Drunk, cold and impatient is no way to start a season

I hate that the booed Rusch. As it goes, he was one of the classiest guys around. He wasn't always at his best for the Cubs, but he did come through for us at times and was always willing to take the ball. Plus he had one of the best nicknames on the team.

I really thought that was ridiculous, especially Rusch. What did he do wrong? Marquis was an adequate 4/5 starter for us.

 

I was also disappointed in the lack of reception shown to Bradley.

Uh, yeah he was. That was his best, and that was the problem.
