How did Theriot "advance to first on the error" after the fielder's choice? I thought the rule was you couldn't assume the double play. Or is that just a saying?

 

He reached on a FC and the run scored on the error. Don't know why it would be scored the way you have it.

I think it's just a saying. Gameday led by saying he grounded into a force out.

 

I've seen a lot of should be double plays where they just call it a fielder's choice, and no error.

I think they scored it an error cause Hill scored.

That would make sense. But gameday says "Ryan Theriot advances to 1st on throwing error by second baseman Jeff Baker."

K. Hill singled to right field

Lilly walked , K Hill to second

Soriano struck out swinging

Theriot grounded into a FC, 6-4, safe at first on a throwing error, E4, K Hill scored, Lilly out at second

Theriot took second on a balk.

Fukudome walked

Rusch in to pitch for Colorado

D Lee blooped a single to right center field , Theriot scored, Fukudome to third

Fontenot grounded out to the pitcher, 1-3
