Brashear just destroyed Betts late. The guy could hardly get off the ice. Pretty dirty.

the NHL has been very inconsistent with their suspensions this off season so it is hard to make a good prediction on this, but I am pretty sure Brashear will certainly not be in game 7 and probably not in game 1 of the next series if the Caps win.

Bet Avery comes out and plays his mind out... He's going to be the big part of a win today for the Rangers!

good call

what a bold stance to take, questioning his half-assed prediction after it's been proven wrong...

it was a dumb prediction. the rangers had a 3-2 lead but barely hung on to win a game in NY, got completely outplayed in game 5 and seem to be a mess. a role player who has been ineffective all series is going to turn the team around? come on.

Oh sorry... should have been less optimistic and said, "After Avery's benching he's going to come out and play a great game". Which he did.

Brashear suspended six (6!) games for his cheap shot on Betts.

What a crock. Another example of the league punishing based on the outcome rather than the intent.

What Camallieri did to Havlat was just as bad, if not worse. If Havlat had broken his jaw, would that have warranted a six-game suspension?

Brashear has a reputation similar to Avery where he's going to get punished based on his reputation alone.

Brashear has been a piece of [expletive] cheap shot artist all his life... he didn't get suspended 6 games just for the hit on Betts... he also got 3 games for the pre-game altercation I believe.

However, Avery doesn't cheap shot and intentionally try to injure people.

I get the whole reputation thing, I just don't agree with it. If there isn't some set "three strikes" policy or something like that, every act should be treated on its own.

Not to start a who's crime is the biggest, but Burish and Camaleirielli not even getting suspensions and Brashear getting 6 does not seem right. The NHL has a huge problem with consistency. This is not me trying to say that what Burish did was as bad as Brashear or what camelaieirwll did was worse that Lucic or anything like that. What I am saying is that they all were cheap shots with intent to injure. That is without question. So how does the NHL determine the punishments? To me it just does not seem consistent.

Since CSN Bay Area is one of the five channels that we get at work that actually shows sports, I'll get to watch the Sharks game tonight while not doing the work I should be doing.

You better be rooting for the Sharks.

Definitely am. I'm not a huge Sharks fan by any means and certainly wouldn't celebrate a championship, but I still pull for them in the playoffs.

ETA: And even if I wasn't a Sharks fan, I'd still be rooting for them just to see a Game 7. Not much better than a Game 7 in hockey, especially if it goes in to OT.

Stupid to do in the playoffs. Why the [expletive] would Getzlaf take himself out for 5 minutes?

Two goals in a couple minutes for Anaheim and they're up 3-1. Sharks on the verge of another playoff disappointment.

I completely agree. It's got to be based on the resulting injury. Betts had a broken orbital bone or something like that. So Brashear gets a more severe penalty.

Wow, brawl in this one!

Nice little fight to end the second period.

Wow, Anaheim might pull this off. I sure hope they do, for the Hawks' sake.

Why?

Cuz I'd rather face Vancouver than San Jose. I think most would.

Ehhh.... Tired SJ team that we can exploit their weakness... or a Rested Canucks team who dominated us the last 2 games.

If San Jose wins this series after being down 3-1, they'd be a very scary team to face in the next round. Again, they have much more offensive firepower than the Canucks do.

There's no question I'd rather play Vancouver.

That should do it. See you next year, San Jose.
