It seems like Gregg lost focus as soon as he got the first out in the 9th and didn't get it back until Weeks hammered him. That Duffy at bat was just inexplicable.

He had him struck-out.

there were borderline pitches that could've gone either way - just as there were the entire game - but to throw a very fast, very bad hitter a curve on 3-2 is idiotic.

Will Gregg be the next Alfonseca/Rojas/Heredia/Aguilera?

I don't think so. Miles will be the next Neifi (or other offensive whipping boy) first.

Actually, when Vizcaino entered the game, I had flashes of Alfonseca and Rojas.

I know it all comes down to options and finances, but I'd much rather see the Shark in our pen over Viz or Gregg.

These losses wouldn't bother me at all (because they are still relatively meaningless) if they weren't damn last at bat loses.

I wouldn't say they're meaningless. A game in April counts the same in the standings as a game in September does.

This won't be our only tough loss of the season, nor will it be our worst. But if we're ever at the point where we're wishing for an extra game or two on the Cardinals or whoever, we can point back to games like this that should have been won.

Id take Chad Fox over the bunch.

If you want to look at it that way, we're actually even with the Cardinals on games blown - they were up two but gave up four in the ninth on Monday to lose.

That being said, I do agree that this was a tough loss. It's one thing if your starter gets rocked or if you get shut down by a good pitcher or even a decent one. But to lose a game like this that they should have won is tough.

Cubs still have the advantage with the pitching matchups in the last two games, so win those and you're fine.

I know. I'm just trying to become a changed baseball fan and look at individual games rationally and realize than individual games in baseball are relatively meaningless.

I shouldn't get pissed off at games in April and I am trying not too. I've adjusted ok and this game didn't bother me that much. But then I read the post game thread and I'm pissed again.

That was then. Besides, hopefully the mental image of Ricky Weeks slamming his helmet is all our guys need to drop double digits.

I think it's pretty crappy when you send Rich Harden up against Braden Looper and can't come away with a win.

This game counts just as much in the standings as the 161st game of the season, by the way.

I for one am ecstatic we threw out the idea of signing Kerry Wood two minutes into the offseason and then ended up with someone way worse for 2M less.

5.8 million less actually (and of course, no 2nd guaranteed year plus vesting option either). I'm not saying that going to Gregg was the best of moves, but the difference is a lot bigger than 2 million.
