Gaudin, Padres Agree To Minor League Deal

By Drew Silva [April 12 at 12:44am CST]

Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres have signed right-hander Chad Gaudin to a minor league deal.

He'll head to San Diego on Sunday for the official signing and a bullpen session. The Padres are only required to pay $400K of the $2MM he's owed for 2009, with the Cubs picking up the rest of the tab. Gaudin went 2-1 with a 10.26 ERA this spring, but he might just find a spot in the Friars' bullpen once he works through whatever was plaguing him during camp.

I know this should be in transactions, but I just edited over the previous Gaudin post to avoid a new thread for no good reason.

Petco will be a much bette homw for him than Coors.

having a bad spring training means you have to "get you career back on track"?
Yes, when the bad spring is on the heels of a bad end to the previous season.

Do you just absolutely refuse to recognize how he finished last year?

I think it's clear he does

No, but getting outright released from a club does. It's hard to fathom that anyone could think he doesn't have something to prove at this point, whether you liked the Cubs decision or not.

Major league baseball teams are playing games right now is he is unemployed. I'd say he needs to get his career back on track.

He apparently had calls from multiple teams within days of being released. It sounds like he's unemployed b/c he's trying to decide which option is the best for him. Given that all the teams are paying him the same, it's really up to him to pick.

the Rockies are a great team to get his career on track. they really don't have any rotation depth so he has a clear route to the starting 5.

(jorge de la rosa agrees)
