Last night, Soriano hit his 50th career lead-off homer. Does anyone know if that was leading off a game, or just leading off (whether game or inning)?

Leading off a game.

Interestingly, his 50th was also his 100th leading off an inning.

He's 3rd all time in that category, behind Biggio and Rickey

Biggio had 53 career, so Soriano has a decent chance to pass him this year.

Nice. How many does Rickey have?

Anyone think Soriano has a shot at breaking Henderson's record?

No.

why not? i think he's got a great chance. assuming he plays 6 more years which would make him 39 at retirement, so you could easily argue he plays more than that, he basically needs 5 leadoff homers per year. that's realistic.

I agree with you that he has a chance, but I don't think he'll do it. I think he'll wind up somewhere in the low 70's at best

He's not going to do it because he's not going to be hitting lead off for too many more seasons

I think he'll come close, but I don't think he'll make it. It really comes down to how long they'll continue to let him hit first.

He'll get worse as he gets older.

This is just like the "Sosa can average 40 HRs a year until he's 40" projections we used to hear all the time.

And he won't be a leadoff hitter forever.

Well, it's not like the Cubs have a clear cut favorite to replace him at leadoff, now or in the pipeline. And if they've already given up on the idea of lots of stolen bases or very high OBP at leadoff, there's no reason why they'd have to move him.

But they probably will long before he breaks that record.

That could easily change with one midseason trade or one offseason.
