Just got to see Shaun Alexander speak to a crowd about a new Christian football camp he's doing or something. That man loves him some Jesus. I know this has nothing to do with actual football, but yeah... in case anyone was wondering what Shaun Alexander has been up to... that stuff.

Singletary explained how he almost made Michael Crabtree cry. Singletary said that he saw Crabtree doing a jog-through on the practice field. Singletary said he hadn't heard that Crabtree was medically clear, so he went over and told Crabtree to get on the sideline and sit until he gets full clearance. Singletary said Crabtree got "teary-eyed" because he wanted to be out there.

"It impressed me because it showed he wanted to be with the team," Singletary said.

What a pansy. :D

You didn't quote the 2nd half.

Singletary then pulled down the pants of one of the female reporters watching the practice and explained to Crabtree that "this is how you are acting".

The supplemental draft was held yesterday and the lone pick was Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon going to the Redskins for a third round pick.

For those who aren't familiar with the supplemental draft, teams offer up a pick in a round and, if they have the highest offer, they get the player. However, they lose that pick from the upcoming year's (2010 in this case) draft.

I'm not at all familiar with this. Why wouldn't the Redskins just sign the guy to a free agent contract and keep the draft pick?

He wasn't a free agent prior to the draft and if they waited until after it, there would be quite a bit of competition to sign him. Also, there were something like 5 teams that offered up a fourth round pick for him - so if the Redskins waited, he would have gone elsewhere.

There were about three or four other players (including Texas Tech DE McKinner Dixon) who were available in the supplemental draft as well. No teams offered a pick for them, though, so they are now free agents.

I guess the question is what makes you eligible for the supplemental draft?

Scenario...player X played college ball last year. Goes through the NFL draft undrafted, and is signed as a free agent. Why wasn't this guy in that scenario?

Basically, these are players who did not enter themselves into the regular draft, and then found out they were ineligble for playing in college next year for one reason or another and so decided to turn pro.

In Jarmon's case, he tested positive for a supplement and was ineligible for his senior year, which is why he came out now, but it wasn't in time for the regular draft.

I didn't catch that, that's pretty cool. I saw the episode on NFLN with Tony Dungy and the speeches he's doing in all those prisons. You could tell by watching those kids respond that Dungy's speech was having an effect on their life. That was really cool to see.

Michael Vick has been conditionally reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who will then decide on the quarterback's full reinstatement for Week 6 of the regular season.

Vick can participate without delay in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games -- if he can find a team that will sign him.

Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities other than games, but could play as soon as October.

Goodell called a news conference for late Monday afternoon.

At least Brett Favre has a sense of humor about all his waffling. Favre makes fun of himself in a new Sears commercial.

In the spot, Favre has a tough time deciding which TV to buy. A Sears sales associate tells Favre that “we have real time price checks … as a way to help guys who have a tough time making decisions. You know the type, right?”

Favre’s reply: “Yeah, I hate those guys.”

In its press release, Sears said the commercial will air in September.

So he might basically get a 6 game suspension? Or 0? Make up your mind Goodell imo

He wants to see him not screw up for a period of time being that he has only been free for a couple of days. Vick can thank players like Adam Jones for this kind of treatment.

I agree this is the Pacman Jones treatment...but Leonard Little/Stallworth/Ray Lewis killed people! Every team has a roster fill of guys who have beat their wives or done things worse than Vick.

Don't get me wrong, Vick isn't a good guy and not one you'd want your daughter to spend time with. But it's disgusting that groups like PETA have warped society to put more value in a dogs life than a humans. He's paid his debt, reinstate him unconditionally.

Stallworth isn't playing...he's suspended indefinitely until the legal issues are resolved. Ray Lewis was never convicted of hurting anyone. Little's issues occurred before Goodell's reign. Goodell has been pretty consistent with dealing with players convicted of crimes since he took over.

Dog fighting is premeditated organized crime. It's not as simple as saying humans > dogs.

I think that Goodell is doing this to appease PETA and hopefully prevent them from protesting outside of every game Vick is at this year. I mean, he was in jail for almost 2 years and lost well over 100 million dollars. Again, he's not a good guy. But this league and society in general is full of not good guys. I don't understand the demonizing of Vick here.

I think the argument I'm doing a very poor job of trying to make is that I think a conditional reinstatement is wrong in this case.

Ugh. Once again do you not understand the idea of intent?

Stallworth made a mistake and was driving under the influence. He was also apparently in his lane and not excessively speeding. A construction worker darted out in front of him, when Stallworth swerved the dude ran the same direction.

Vick organized, funded and took part in the torture and murder of innocent dogs repeatedly over a number of years. He bankrolled things and oversaw the whole operation. It was pre-meditated and calculated. His crime displays a much more violent, cruel, cold-hearted and anti-social nature than Stallworth's.

The way our legal system is set up certainly seems to imply that.

I'm clearly not going to argue that what Vick did wasn't premeditated and intentional. However, the man served his time and paid his debt to society; emotionally, physically and fiscally. Where as Stallworth, while he didn't get in the car that morning intending to kill someone, was drunk (.12 BAC) and speeding (50mph in a 40mph zone) so he put himself in a position where something could happen. It seems obvious to me he was able to throw some money around in this situation to the victims family/whoever need it and get off with a month in jail. Whereas Vick didn't have anyone he could appease outside of court to get his sentence reduced and thus served 20 months who whatever it came to be. Something there just does not add up to me.

Other than this point, you focus on the poorer example I gave regretfully considering Stallworth is indefinitely suspended right now. Do you believe that Vick deserves to still be suspended for what he did?

So you seriously don't see where intent comes into play here? Planning, funding and carrying out the torture and killing of dogs over a period of years, compared to making a stupid reckless mistake one night that ended in a collision that was partially the fault of the guy who died. Guys like Leonard Little don't really matter to this discussion since the NFL has obviously changed the way it deal with off the field issues since Little killed that woman.

I was thinking a 4 game suspension to start this season was fair. Making it 5 games potentially and still having it be conditional is a little more than that, but well within the reasonable range. Vick missed time because he was in jail. It's not the NFL's fault he was unavailable to not be available to play games due to suspension.

Yes because people who kill and torture animals usually get longer sentences than people who kill other humans right? I mean you said that's the way our legal system is set up, so you should be able to provide plenty of examples backing that up.

As jersey said, he missed the past two years because he was in jail. They didn't suspend him last year. A suspension to start this season was more than fair.

Vick's lucky he was reinstated at all.

Hopefully the additional suspension will keep his contract low if/when he does sign.
