Te'o and then Chris Martin commits. ND already has two 5-star verbals for 2010 (and a 4-star WR). Good day.

I'm a bit concerned that Te'o is going to technically be eligible for the draft after only 1 year with the Irish (he plans to leave the team for 2 years after his first year and then come back), but there's almost no way he'll jump to the NFL after a 2 year layoff so the team should have him for at least 2 years and hopefully more.

He'd be recruitable again when he comes back, no? That's how UCLA got Ben Olson a few years ago.

EDIT: I can't see Te'o picking a school for one year, he'll at least play the one more season after his mission.

From what I've gathered he's not able to be recruited, but he can transfer without sitting out a year when he comes back. In Olson's case, he made the decision to transfer and therefore coaches were able to recruit him openly.

And how well that worked out for them!

Gotcha.

Kiffin today on Nashville radio said that the Vols still had a couple guys out there, and that one would be a surprise.

Oku

Charles

Janzen Jackson

maybe Bryce Brown

Those are all possibilities at this point. 3 would be surprises. Oku would not.

Yea, he said that during his press conference at 5:30. I think Oku could be considered a "surprise" at this point since he's not signed and is actually reportedly leaning toward Auburn.

I'd love Oku and Jackson to round out this class. Even though we lost Brown, that would still be a great class.

I've confirmed that Los Angeles Cathedral receiver Randall Carroll has chosen UCLA as his college choice.

It puts the final touch on a day to remember for the Bruins. Not since the 1990s has a Bruins program succeeded in landing as many late-deciding top recruits as Coach Rick Neuheisel and his staff did today.

It's the second time in a month that UCLA took away a USC commit. In January, tight end Morrell Presley from Carson enrolled at UCLA after being a long-time USC commit. Now Carroll, the fastest teenager in California, will join him at UCLA after being committed to USC for more than a year. He was scheduled to make his announcement on FSN Prime Ticket at 6:30 p.m. (tape delay).

What a way to end an amazing day for UCLA football. I don't know that UCLA has ever stolen 2 recruits from USC, let alone in the same year. All coming off a 4-8 season.

Wow, didn't see that coming. Very good pickup for UCLA football.

It wasn't much of a surprise. His whole family was favoring UCLA (mom especially) and he was only a soft verbal in name since around Christmas.

From what I can tell, 2010 should have one of the best crops of recruits in Southern California in years.

Hahaha, I love Scout:

1. Ohio State

2. LSU

3. Alabama

t4. North Carolina

t4. UCLA

6. Texas

7. USC

Yeah yeah, Rivals is better. Only 14 there, which is worse than last year's 13.

Janzen Jackson will sing with UT at 10 am EST tomorrow, according to Brent Hubbs. Another well connected source saying that Oku will sign with UT as well, and that Orson Charles is still a pretty good possibility.

Jackson, Oku, and Charles vaults Tennessee easily into the Top 20, if not the Top 15.

Will Jackson sign with us as well?

That's awesome news, by the way. I thought we were already top 20 in rivals and maybe as high as 15. All three of those guys could push us near the top 10, which would be incredible, given the coaching change.

If this is true, this is a fantastic class.

The word from the USC message boards and the ND blogs is that Jawanza Starling hasn't actually faxed in his letter of intent to USC yet and may still be in play. Apparently Pete Carroll didn't mention Starling in his press conference.

Apparently Weis cryptically alluded to the possibility that ND may yet get one or two more recruits, which could be taken as referring to Starling.

LA media has confirmed that USC hasn't received his fax. But it could be a minor reason.

I'm happy to see David Cutcliffe pulled in a top 50 class with two 4-star recruits and 13 3-stars.

That's after 66th last year (0 4 stars and 7 3 stars) and 78th in 2007 (0 4 stars and 4 3 stars) for Duke.

What does Charles project as? I think I've heard tight end, but he could be a wide receiver too, I think.

Tight End, in the Dallas Clark/Jason Witten mold. With Brandon Warren being moved to WR, we could use a TE in this class.

Thanks. I had heard Warren was going to move to WR, but I'm not sure I like it. He's a great mismatch there and we don't exactly have depth at TE (not the biggest fan of Luke Stocker, even though I like Aaron Douglas).

I like our depth at WR - especially after adding Richardson and Rogers.

WR depth is very nice, but I like Green far more than Rogers. UT was one of 2 schools to sign two out of Rivals Top 20 WR's. (Green and Richardson) Orgeron also made it sound like Teague will get a look on that side of the ball. If we sign Janzen, I don't see why they wouldn't try Teague on offense first. This DB class is excellent, if Janzen indeed signs here. Janzen, Myles, and Edwards are an excellent trio, and Oliver is nice depth.

TE depth is a major issue, and there was talk (at least under Fulmer) that Douglas was being converted to a Tackle. Not sure that will still be the case, though.

that's like the penn state classes recently. people kiss the asses of larry johnson sr., tom bradley and mike mcqueary for their recruiting efforts but you'd think that a program like penn state wouldn't be getting beaten in recruiting by ohio state and michigan year after year.

LSU lost a few players that I hoped we would sign (Kenny Bell, Benton, and possibly Jackson), but we're still ranked 1 or 2 depending on who you look at it. It's now being reported that Miles pulled the scholarship offer to Benton. Some think that this may have been done to insure Randel would sign there. Benton is still waiting on the clearinghouse to get eligible.

Jackson could still sign with LSU. He's been a long-time LSU commit, but his father his good friends with Orgeron. We'll have to wait until 9 AM this morning to see what happens, but the rumblings are that he'll sign with UT.

Penn State recruits almost entirely out of PA, NJ and MD. It's nice to have a lock on those states, but you're not usually seeing a ton of 5-star recruits out of those areas. I'm hoping that whoever the next coach at PSU is breaks out of the antiquated "territorial" recruiting strategies and goes hard after a few guys from Florida or California

LMAO.

Apparently, Lane Kiffin is causing quite an uproar in the SEC. At a press conference (I'll link video when I find it again), he calls out Urban Meyer for recruiting violations (he was calling Nuke while on his UT official visit) and Nick Saban.

This won't end well with the larger powers fighting amongst themselves.

Good point on Green, it was late and I just forgot about him. I definitely prefer him to Rogers.

That's why I don't understand moving Warren to wide receiver. TE depth is a major issue, WR depth is a strength, so why move your best tight end to wide receiver? Especially if they go through with moving Douglas to tackle.
