Trading for Heilman would just make it easier to give up Marshall in a Peavy deal.

Heilman would immediately be the Padres #2 starter in a deal for Peavy.

With Marshall their #3, Felix Pie their center fielder, and Josh Vitters and the 3 unknowns from the DeRosa trade in their minor league system.

I have never heard anyone say Heilman has "marginal stuff" until reading some of the commentary in this thread. Quite the opposite is allegedly true. Has that assessment changed in recent years?

He used to have very good movement on his fastball. IIRC, the Mets have tinkered with his delivery over the years, resulting in a loss of movement.

why on earth would Seattle do that deal?

Because that organization is under management that is slightly better than the one in Baltimore.

I wouldn't say that is the case. Bavasi is out and the replacement, Jack Zduriencik, while untested, played a huge role in the Brewer's recent success. I'm thinking that Zduriencik will at least be a solid GM.

He has good stuff but loses focus and walks a lot when the pressure is on. He's like Wertz but with two pitches. I don't think he will be a big upgrade but at the cost of Cedeno, I would do it in a heart beat.

If the Cubs get Heilman I'm going to refer to him as "Old Style". That may be reason enough to not get him.

Everything I've heard about Heilman is that the M's are going to try him out as a starter.

In so far as the Cubs getting him for the pen, don't they already have Gaudin for that same role? If they want to not mind trading Marshall for Peavy or whomever they ought to be looking at a LH reliever. I thought they are 100% comforatble with Cotts being their only Lefty if Marshall gets traded or goes to the rotation.

I just can't believe even Seattle would be stupid enough to do Heilman for Cedeno straight-up, but I'd do it in a second if they would - he's an underrated pitcher IMO. I'd give them Cedeno and Hart for him, in fact.

Deeg, are you crazy?

Don't you know that Hart can blow hitters away with 94-96 mph fastballs and chew up their bats with cutters?
