It is kind of funny how they traded away a bat like Lee, got Pods, then won the World Series in spite of it.

You never know. Maybe DeRosa goes, Fontenot doesn't fill the gap, but somehow the Cubs still get it done. There's a lot games that need to be played. Hard to sit here in January and pretend to know what will happen by October.

Cubs are still the best team in the division and are fine for the playoffs. Their chances for next year are barely worse than they were this year.

My mistake. What was I thinking?

Former batting champion, .289 average, 2700 hits, 1000 runs scored, 1200 RBIs, nearly 500 doubles.

Yeah, he sucks big time.

Bill Buckner's career OPS: .729 (played 644 games in the outfield)

I'm not saying Pods is a great player. I'm just saying he was a good fit for the Sox when they got him.

Bill Buckner and Maury Wills? Are you seriously comparing Scotty Pods to these guys? They played in a completely different era and completely different ballparks. Maury Wills' career was played entirely during a dominant pitching era. Buckner was nothing like Podsednik. Period.

I'm only comparing the OPS, which came under heavy fire for Pods.

One minute you're using OPS, the next minute you're back to using these stats. Come on, buddy.

IT CAME UNDER FIRE BECAUSE OF THE POSITION AND ERA HE PLAYED IN.

Guess I should have quoted him.

I never said he sucked, but I did say they aren't comparable. Buckner was a mid .450 SLG guy while Pods is a mid .350 SLG guy. A perfect example of how they aren't comparable can be found in your own post.

Buckner: 1200 RBI

Pods: 200 RBI

Buckner played most of his games at 1b. I liken this to comparing Juan Pierre to James Loney. Simply not comparable.

I didn't say he was HOF worthy, but those are pretty damn good career numbers. Anyone who knows anything about baseball would agree.

A former leader in a nearly meaningless stat, a decent career average in a nearly meaningless stat, and a bunch of pretty counting numbers for a guy who played a million seasons.

Those numbers are over 22 seasons which is not a usual career. If you average those numbers over a 162 game season, they don't look all that great. Not terrible, but not great either.

Begs the question: Should Harold Baines ever get into Cooperstown?

Harold Baines? Scott Podsednik?

It's all starting to make sense. You're a White Sox fan who is just having fun messing with us Cubs' fans.

No.

Baines was a greatplayer, as were Tim Raines, Don Mattingly, Andre Dawson, and of course, Ron Santo. However, it takes more than great to make it into the hall. Its reserved for the legen...wait for it...dary

It is rather amazing he racked up 22 seasons with those knees though.

Back to Hendry.

Are we going to get another pitcher and decent power bat for the bench?

I predict we get another pitcher (not Peavy) and some retread garbage for the bench.

We'll still be the hands-down favorite for the NL Central, but I won't like it.

We'll be too reliant on fragile players.

Prove me wrong Donuts.
