Burrell for $8 mil. and Ibanez for roughly $10 mil. You have to think Bradley will fall somewhere between $7-9 mil. a year. I will be disappointed in Hendry if he has to go much more than $10-11 per year for him when comparable (more durable) players are going for cheaper. Should be interesting to see what we end up signing Bradley for.

Indeed.

If nothing else, this pushes the odds of the Cubs getting Bradley even higher than they already are. Allegedly the Rays were the main competition.

Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Burrell will outproduce Bradley for both of those seasons. Too bad he hits RH and wasn't an option for the Cubs, although with his OF defense, Adam Dunn would have been a better fit.

Great signing by the Rays. This should be a good sign for their fans that they will spend some money to improve a good team. Lets hope they are repaid at the box office this year.

The article states that the Cubs are probably gonna give Bradley more than the Rays wanted to give him. This makes me think that the Cubs will spend more than 8 mil on Bradley. I bet we give him a 2 year 18 mil deal with a 10 mil team option for the 3rd year.

Damn, that's pretty good I think.

Crawford, Burrell, and Upton is a pretty badass outfield.

Burrell will most likely be DHing most of the time. Their OF is going to be Crawford, Upton, and Joyce.

Burrell will probably be one of the better DH's in the AL next year. According to ESPN the only "qualified" DH's to be considered a full time DH last year were Bradley, Kubel, Huff, and Thome. Burrell will probably be the best out of those that are sticking around. Great deal for the Rays

With no teams out there aggressively pursuing free agents, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that quality players will be getting paid significantly less than what was expected in the past, but man, nice deal for Tampa.

They're going to have a formidable lineup. Lots of strikeouts, but also lots of pop. With some speed on the bases.

When I first read this, I was shocked.

That's very cheap for a guy coming off a good season, with a Championship winning team.

same reaction here.

fangraphs has burrell's last two seasons valued at $20.4M, and his last 4 valued at nearly $44M. so yeah 2 years and $16M is pretty much a steal for them.

For whatever reason guys like Ibanez and Bradley were the outfielders who got the most interest this offseason. Guys like Burrell, Dunn and Abreu have been kinda put on the back burners. Dunn and Abreu will probably have to sign for 8-10m per season as well. Even though Abreu is still asking for 3y at 48.

The Cubs looked at other right-field candidates, but Bobby Abreu (who is still seeking a three-year, $48 million deal, according to one National League executive) priced himself out early, especially given his modest home run numbers (an average of 17 a season the last three years).

Except, with the valuation of Burrell as a DH, you don't count defense. So taking UZR out of the equation (which seems to be your point of contention), Burrell should be worth around $10-12M per year.
