Maybe I'm spacing on my positional acronyms, but isn't the fifth round a little early to be taking an offensive coordinator?

I think he means Offensive Center. But I am really hoping you were just playing.

Center.

I don't like Williams, but I'm too lazy to see who was taken ahead of Williams. And I don't know any of the other guys (except Munnerlyn and Luigs).

McShay's 7 (!) round mock is out.

He has the Bears taking:

(49) Chicago Bears Derrick Williams WR Penn State

(99) Chicago Bears (Compensatory) Corvey Irvin DT Georgia

(119) Chicago Bears Captain Munnerlyn* DC South Carolina

(140) Chicago Bears (from Denver through Seattle) Courtney Greene SS Rutgers

(154) Chicago Bears Jonathan Luigs OC Arkansas

(190) Chicago Bears Joel Bell OT Furman

(246) Chicago Bears (compensatory) Mortty Ivy OLB West Virginia

(251) Chicago Bears (compensatory) Phillip Hunt DE Houston

I have to say I don't know much about most of these guys outside of Williams.

For me I know nobody but Jonathan Luigs. And yes I would approve of Luigs because he would be a nice heir apparent to center for Kreutz.

I think it was a misprint on McShay, because there isn't a defensive center. I was giving what I thought what OC stood for.

Bleh, I don't like that at all. No FS, DE not early enough. Too many OL early. No late round QB. LB too Late. Munnerlyn too early.

As far as the players go, I like some of them. Williams, Irvin, and Munnerlyn all seem early. Luigs and Greene seem late.

Corvey Irvin is a raw DT who didn't play much in college (injuries and UGA D-line depth) but has a pretty good amount of potential. He could start, if he develops.

I actually like Derrick Williams quite a bit. There are others I'd take before him (Louis Murphy from Florida) but he's fast, can catch and can be an exceptional special teams player. Not much of a blocker from what I've heard, though.

Munnerlyn is very athletic, but only 5'9. He's very similar to a poor man's Pacman Jones - short but his athleticism and physical play makes up for a lot. He's not nearly as athletic as Pacman, though, but he also doesn't have anywhere near the issues.

Courtney Greene was likely to be a 1st day pick had he come out after his junior year. He chose to return, however, and his senior year was nothing special. If he recaptures his junior year play, he'll be a great steal for somebody.

Joel Bell is a solid guard who can be a good player, but will probably need some time to improve technique and strength.

The other two I don't know much about.

Luigs, is a fine center prospect, who was the 2007 Rimington Trophy winner (nation's top center in 2007.) Luigs once went toe-to-toe with Terrance Cody and more then held his own against the big fella. Depending on who you ask either Caldwell or Luigs was the SEC's best center. So if the Bears could land Luigs, they would be getting a fine replacement for Kreutz.

Sorry, I'm very familiar with Luigs. It was the final two (Ivy and Hunt) I don't know a great deal about.

Luigs might be my favorite center prospect given where he's likely to be taken. Unger and Mack are both better players, but will both cost late 1st, early 2nd round picks. Luigs may well go sometime in the third or fourth.

AQ Shipley and Antoine Caldwell (who you're quite familiar with I'm sure  ) are also very good value centers who can be had in the 3rd to 4th rounds and likely be starters in a year or two.

Luigs was for those who don't know him.

As for Caldwell, he was my favorite lineman, moreso then Smith. Caldwell was as reliable as a center could get. If the Bears and Titans could Caldwell and Luigs, I would be one happy camper. And I believe Caldwell could end up going late center depending if there is a run on OL this yr.

I'd be ecstatic if the Titans got either Caldwell or Luigs in the middle rounds. It'd give Kevin Mawae a replacement when he decides to retire and would allow Leroy Harris to move full-time to guard.

I was totally impressed with Luigs when he fought Terrance Cody to a standstill last yr. One of the few games in which Cody wasn't a "big" factor in. After that game, I knew Luigs will be a very good NFL center.

Any center who is as dominant as Luigs was in the SEC will likely be a good NFL player. As offensively challenged as the SEC is, the defensive lines are very stout (except Tennessee, we suck).

I feel like I've read other things. Explosive with the ball yes, but prone to the drop. Just a few scouting reports made me feel like he'd be a similar player to Hester overall. Not what we're really looking for in the 2nd round. I want to get someone who is big and physical for us to compliment Hester.

Problem is, after Britt, Nicks and DHB there's not really very many big wide receivers in the draft.

The best after them is probably Ramses Barden from Cal Poly SLO (I think that's where he's from, some small California school) and middle of the second might be a bit of a reach for him.

He fits your description almost perfectly, though.

After Barden, Marko Mitchell from Nevada and Patrick Turner from USC would be the guys you'd want if you specifically wanted a big receiver. And both of them are probably 4th-5th type guys.

Yeah, if Britt isn't there I might think about passing on a WR in the 2nd round. Then again, while I do feel like Barden is a 3rd rounder, he won't be there at 99. Would it be worth taking him in the 2nd if he was the only "big" WR left?

If the Chicago coaches are willing to give him time to develop, I could see him being worth the value. He's got a ton of potential, but being a small school guy he's got some development to go through.

That said, it'd probably be best if they really want Barden to trade down a few slots and try to get another later round pick as well. Late second round (probably 20 or later) would be decent value for Barden, I think. Plus it'd give you an extra fifth rounder or so.

Williams seems like a reach in the mid 2nd round. McShay must be projecting that a ton of WRs will be going earlier.

*sigh* I guess I'm the only one still hoping for a decent WR to drop. :(

What the heck is a DC? Is that supposed to be DB?
