Isn't it ironic that the very first post in this thread predicted a 10 loss team :-))

It did say "barring an impressive offseason". I'd say this was about as impressive as could possibly be expected.

EDIT: Actually, reading that post more, Jersey was dead on....

The line might be okay if the QB and receivers were better, the receivers might be okay with a great QB, the QB might be okay if the receivers could impact the game more themselves.

What the hell? I didn't edit that.

Weird...that's probably my fault as I intended to edit the post ahead...not sure what happened there...sorry Raw.

I just re-edited mine...if you wanna delete the post with your name on it, go ahead....

At this rate Olsen is either going to be Tony Gonzalez in his prime or a tremendous disappointment.

As for the beginning of the offseason disappointment, obviously that was all pre-Cutler. It was pretty Babich being canned as well. Back then beat writers thought it was vital to resign John St. Clair, as if that was going to be the difference on offense. That all changed when they went out and got three new offensive linemen one of whom may be a shade below pro bowl caliber at this point, and Jay Cutler. Orton and these WR would be disappointing, Cutler as these receivers is a whole 'nother ballgame. I had no idea Jay would become available or the Bears would be poised to pounce. But since they have my feelings about this season are totally changed. I feared a 10 loss season now I'm expecting 10 wins, and hoping for 11-12. And I don't think that's the least bit crazy. The defense is no longer elite, but they should be good enough to allow a great QB to win them several games.

Hmm, wonder why it was removed. Clearly someone who has an axe to grind with Cutler.

Or just someone who has hated the Bears since a certain day in 2006.

That was my thought...and although he denies it in the comments, that's what I'm sticking with.

I love that his reasoning for ranking Arizona #5 is that "they're the same team as last year". Yeah, the team that went 9-7, right?

It sounded like he was more attacking Cutler and hoping he would destroy the Bears from within, but yeah -- there's always that night in '06.

I love the quote for the Lions at 31 saying, "at least there not the Bears."

That's entertainment.

Did anybody read the response section of the post?

Deep, confident Bears team eager to kick off season

Thomas George By Thomas George | NFL.com

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The Bears' Tuesday night practice was full of pop here at their training camp facility at Olivet Nazarene University. For good measure afterward, their fans were treated to sparkling fireworks that filled the sky.

And if the Bears have their way, that is only a hint of the show to come.

This is a confident team. It is, overall, a deep team. The offense looks ahead of the defense but the defense is not in the dumps. The players looked excited. Their work was impressive.

Both Bears starting cornerbacks -- Charles Tillman (back) and Zachary Bowman (hamstring) -- are currently out due to injuries. Bears coach Lovie Smith expects both to be in the lineup on opening day on Sept. 15 against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

"And when we get them back," said Smith, "we'll be salty."

That is a mouthful coming from this normally reserved coach.

I thought that might be a slip up on the writer's part, but it seems like a bit of a no brainer given the fact that Bowman was given Peanut's spot (ergo he's highly regarded) when Peanut went down and Vasher has been underperforming. He has direct quotes from Lovie, so it may have been implied by something Lovie said... Either way, I would feel good about the position if those two guys were healthy and our starting CB's.

All that aside... can someone explain what, "We'll be salty," means and how it's a good thing?

I would take the salty thing to mean they'll be sporting a bit of an attitude. And I'm guessing it won't be pleasant for the other team in Lovie's eyes.

Sure, it's a bunch of comments questioning his intelligence, and then the page was taken down. #-o

Perhaps he's using it as a short version of the phrase "salty dog" :

the season also begins on the 13th, not the 15th.

I am really excited based on what I have been reading for the last couple of weeks. Most encouraging to me is what is being said about Pace and Williams. If they both play well and we are able to pressure the opposing QB, watch out...
Posted

It's really hard to judge the linemen until games start.

But I was amazed by Pace. I expected a guy hobbling around, taking drills off to save himself, etc. etc. I never expected to see him so active, and moving so well. I was really happy with him.

Not crazy at all. Barring major injury or a severe decline from several players, I don't see anyway the Bears should lose more than 6 games with their schedule.

I was upset the day the Bears got Olsen in the draft, but then a lot of the stud physical specimen TE's who were productive in college didn't pan out. He could make a huge jump this year.

NFC North will be a battle. How would you rank the position groups in the division offensively?

QB

1. Bears

2. Packers

3. Vikings

4. Lions (could be

RB

1. Vikings

2. Bears

3. Packers

4. Lions but could move up to 3

OL

1. Vikings

2. Packers

3. Bears could move up to 2 if Pace stays healthy and Williams is legit

4. Lions

WR

1. Packers

2. Lions just because of Calvin.

3. Vikings could jump the Lions as a group if Harvin is as advertised

4. Bears

TE

1. Bears

2. Vikings

3. Lions

4. Packers

Defensively as a whole:

1. Vikings

2. Bears

3. Packers

4. Lions

Vikings have the best DL, Packers have the best secondary. Every team has a good linebacking group and really it's pretty tough to rank as a unit. Packers throw a wrinkle into things with the 3-4.

Orlando Pace is the badest bad ass of left tackles. In his prime he was so awesome it wasnt funny. I dont expect the in prime Pace but i think we can see a bad ass Pace. Good to hear good words about him this camp.

David Haugh wrote about 5 players who have made solid impressions 'besides Andersons dominance'. Is he talking THE Mark Anderson, i havent read anything about that this year, this comment surprised me.

And all the talk of Cutler and Olsen has me thinking Jason Witten performance from Olsen this year. :-$
