But he's not... so...

He'll be 40 for most of next season and has had one good season since 2004...

Would he be an improvement over the garbage that is Sage or Tavaris? Yea. Is he washed up? Yea.

Again, he was having a good season before he got hurt last year. He was a Top 5 QB in 2007.

So an aging quarterback who has had several bad seasons in recent times puts together half a good season before getting hurt?

Eh, whatever.

If healthy Favre is a big upgrade over T-Jack/Sage. Everyone would (should) at least see that. But if you don't... Well ok.

That's really not saying very much, so why belabor the point? Tavaris/Sage/Frerotte/whatever else is dreadfully bad for the Vikes. You can have an upgrade and still fail relative to what was there anyway.

There's so much to be decided before we even reach the regular season. I'm hearing Favre isn't even feeling very good, and that he's having trouble making some of the tougher throws, and is still feeling pain in his shoulder. Nobody really knows if he can even perform right now.

Im not a Favre fan, im a Packer fan. But I think its more hillarious watching Bear fans try to say this would not be a HUGE upgrade for the Vikings, and saying Favre is washed up.

In the last four seasons, he's had one where he met the very low standard of more TDs than INTs.

This is true. However in the 27 games before his shoulder injury ('07 and first 11 games of '08) he had 48 TD's and 28 INT's while completing 66% of his passes.

There is risk involved. My opinion is that there's a higher ceiling with Favre than the current QB's but the floor is also lower (same goes for Tarvaris vs. Sage).

Favre with this supporting cast in a familiar offense can replicate what he was doing the last two years prior to the injury. But there's also the risk that he has an injury like last year but plays through it and stinks.

I'm fairly tired of the speculation and won't really get excited either way with his decision. The division is too tough to predict between the 3 teams right now but they'll be in the mix either way. I think a healthy Favre would add more upside for the playoffs but only 1-2 games tops in the regular season.

Just curious, but where have you heard that stuff about him having trouble?

I'm not arguing, I'm just wondering where it's coming from. All I had heard recently was that he was working out with those high school kids again and felt pretty good...but maybe there's a reason he hasn't decided yet (other than skipping OTAs and the beginning of training camp).

EDIT - This was direct at Soul's post before hawkeye's...

Yeah, it was a radio report that I heard over lunch a few days ago. ESPN. I don't have an article link.

I don't see why you are touting this as some kind of slam-dunk advantage.

It's still a different team, different playbook, different terminology, and probably most importantly, all different & unfamiliar players.

Given that he's not participated in any of the OTAs, there will still be an adjustment period. It might even lag significantly into the season.

Read my posts on the subject and tell me when I've insinuated it's a slam-dunk advantage. It's not. There's more risk with Favre than Rosenfels in my opinion. There's also more upside.

The offense and terminology is nearly identical to what he ran his entire time in Green Bay. He also would be joining earlier than he did last year. He would have a better o-line, a much better running game and better targets to throw to. He should be able to adapt faster and easier than he did last year with the Jets and he started the season pretty well last year.

Maybe. Maybe not. You don't know any of this for a fact. There's no accounting for putting someone into a new situation, how long it will take. It could be much more difficult than the Jets, or easy. This is one of the things I've been trying to be cautious about with Cutler as well.

Yea, I'm pretty sure that what has been said all along is that this is the essentially the same offense that Favre knows inside and out from his entire career.

I mean... WCO is basically WCO...

Even if WCO is WCO, there are many other factors in play as well.

Look, maybe he slides right in without skipping a beat. I'm just saying, nobody knows for sure that will happen as of right now.

Take the Favre conversation to its proper thread -- the NFL Offseason thread. This is at least the second time this thread has been derailed in this fashion, and that's two too many times. Drop it here and take it up there.

End transmission.

Training camp starts July 31 and the first preseason game starting August 15 at Buffalo. Hot damn.

This years training camp news is obvisouly going to focus on Cutler and how the offense looks. Im looking forward to hearing about the battle for the safties spots, the Wrs battle, Chris Williams on the right side, and the dline play of Jarron Gilbert and Mark Anderson. Marinelli talked about the importance of moves and countermoves, Anderson was pretty much just run up the field as fast as possible and he didnt really display any moves, if Marinelli can teach him some moves and refine his technique ill be optimistic about him creating some pass rush. Gilbert is loaded with athleticism, im very curious on how well he does at camp.

A quick heads up for those wanting to buy Bears tickets on Saturday: there are no more local Ticketmaster call centers for Illinois. ChicagoBears.com lists the national automated call center (800-745-3000) as the only phone number. Not sure if that will be any different than the Ticketmaster Express number (866-448-7849), but if you can't get through on one, try the other. You might still be able to get tickets online if you're fast, but if you want a decent shot at tickets, try for one of the two or three least popular games.

I blame ElCaballo.

I blame the Cubs. If they were 20 games above .500. No one would care enough to argue with me.

Discuss by yourself all you want -- just in the appropriate thread!

NFL.com piece on Marinelli and the line...

Oh, and... wow

Bears coach Lovie Smith and Marinelli were part of Tony Duny's original staff in Tampa Bay. The defensive system -- Cover 2 -- was the Buccaneers' identity in turning a dormant franchise into a dominate one.

So much for editing.

Seriously.
