Cutler and Pace. Wow. What a fantastic day. Wish we could have kept the 3rd rounder though. Now Angelo can go all out on drafting defense and the Bears are going to be in great shape. Forte, Olsen and Hester are damn good offensive weapons, and maybe Bennett can step up in his 2nd year. The WR core is the only position on offense that needs shoring up, besides drafting for the OL in the future. With these new acquistions that can be put off for a year. Couldn't be happier, wish they could have kept the 3rd rounder though.

We had two third round picks. Plus, it's just a third rounder.

ESPN really likes this trade.

For the Broncos.

Mark Schlereth thought it was crazy how Bears fans could be excited when we lost our two starting tackles from last year.

Nevermind the fact they were terrible and we've replaced them with what are likely better options this year.

No offense to Schlereth, but I doubt he even knows the other moves we've made this offseason. We've upgraded both our tackle positions significantly.

I like Schlereth, but he (more so then Dilfer) came off as being unprepared. He said if you could name the Bears starting WR then you are lucky. He also remarked that Lloyd and Davis as the Bears starters? puh-lease. Lloyd was on a one yr deal, unlikely to return, and Davis would be lucky if he is on the Bears come the 09 season. As for the tackles situations.......Pace with Williams going to LT and the signings of Omiyale and Shaffer > Tait and JSC at T, and Metcalf as backup. I'm not saying the OL is the greatest in the world, but the OL is better today then it was at the end of the season.

I do agree with both in that there is still some work to be done with the offense, but the major ??? was at QB and that has been solved.

I am a believer that whoever gets the BP in the deal is generally the winner of the deal. Cutler>Orton and unknown draft picks.

i wouldn't mind the bears resigning lloyd though along with holt and going with holt-lloyd-hester-bennett-drafted WR.

Congratulations Bear fans. This is a fantastic move for you to get Cutler and a very good signing of Pace.

I was hoping he'd head to Chicago and I'm definitely glad he's out of the AFC.

NFL Network really likes it for the Bears.

And in my opinion, NFL Network is a much better source.

I trust their analysts any day over ESPNs.

The dude can play. Now we've gotta surround him with weapons and protection.

What decent second round receivers will there be?

Longshots: Hakeem Nicks and Kenny Britt. Late first round talents who might fall.

After that, Louis Murphy of Florida is nearly as athletic (and perhaps close to as good) as Percy Harvin. Ramses Barden is a big, raw receiver with a lot of potential. Brandon Tate is close to as good as Nicks, but his final season was shortened with an injury. That's just off the top of my head.

Outside of Britt and Nicks, likely no starters for the upcoming year. But plenty of potential in that group.

One thing to note. Cutler played at Vanderbilt with Earl Bennett and Chris Williams. The Cutler to Bennett combo put up 79 catches for 876 yards and 9 TDs in Bennett's 1st season (I can't remember if he came out early so he was either a Freshman or Sophomore). Bennett and Cutler are really good friends and last year Cutler showed up in Nashville to throw to Bennett on his pro day, despite being an NFL QB already and being 2 years removed from playing with Earl. Clearly there is some good rapport there.

I watched Bennett and Cutler at Vanderbilt and they definitely had some very good chemistry. Cutler relied extremely heavily on Bennett and even when Vandy wasn't very good, that was a dangerous combo.

The happiest person about this trade is probably Earl Bennett.

What happens to Brett Basanez now?

What? This changed nothing with Basanez.

I thought he came to Chicago to compete for the starting QB job. That's obviously not true now.

THIS IS AWESOME. Oh and ESPN's 'analysts' are basically angry, stupid, and uninformed. Great combo.

Mark Schlereth thinks losing Fred Miller is a big loss. Nuff said. lol

He was around to compete for a spot as the third QB, which he can still do.

Why does the 3rd rounder matter to you?

We're still picking in the 3rd round. We had 2 of 'em.

Because the 2 1st rounders were a given. As well as giving up Orton, I thought that would be enough. An extra 3rd goes a long way in filling up the holes the Bears have currently. Just because we have a QB, can't forget the complete lack of pass rush, the corner depth with Vasher's demise, and the S and DT rotation. Harris and Dvoracek are constantly injured. The D needs a lot of help, and that 3rd rounder could have possibly became a starter this year. It's not a complaint, I'm still incredibly happy with the deal. Just wish we could have kept the pick.
