Cutler might not "save" us this year, but he's only 25. He'll be here for at least a few years as we rebuild the D. The offensive line is going to be better this year IMO. We've got a stud RB and two very good TEs. We need to either sign Holt now, or make the 2nd round our round to get a WR (or both), then focus on D in the later rounds.

absolutely. he's so young, he should be the bears qb for the remainder of his career. (if the line doesn't get him killed) the bears aren't going to be great in '09 but that's fine. he's going to be around for some rebuilding

the bears management clearly feel cutler is the future by making such a huge deal for him. i would not be shocked to see cutler signed to an extension at some point within the next year.

Star quarterback and star protection for him all in less than an hour. Could this be the greatest day in Chicago Bears history since 1/26/1986? I think it just might be. Dont tell me Angelo actaully wants to win again.

Ok people, now raise your hand if your thought the Bears would ever get a franchise QB? With the Bears getting their long awaited franchise QB, maybe, just maybe the Cubs can dogpile the pitcher's mound after winning the last game in October.

With that said, OMIGOD.......maybe there is hope for you Angelo. I am beginning to like the potential of this offense. Pro-Bowl QB in Cutler, a soon to be Pro Bowl RB Matt Forte, a Pro Bowl KR, perhaps future Pro Bowl WR Devin Hester, and perhaps even a future Pro Bowl TE in Greg Olson. There is potential to be a really good offense in Chicago ( offensive line, please be good next yr).

JAY CUTLER IS A FRAKKIN' BEAR. Go crazy, Bears fans, go crazy.

Now we just need to sign Holt. That would give us the freedom to really go with BPA throughout the draft. As it stands now we're probably in a position where we need to draft a WR in the second.

Even if the Bear somehow signs Holt, I still think the Bears should draft a WR like Britt or Nicks in the 2nd rd.

Puts a lot of pressure on Earl Bennett. He'll likely step in and play a prominent role offensively having been a teammate of Cutler's and given that its not likely that any other WR will be brought in before the 49th pick.

Only if they are the best player available.

Long term we still could use youth on the O-Line and everywhere on the defense.

I think it was yesterday, one of the beat reporters for St. Louis was on the radio, and he said Pace still had something left in the tank.

But he also said Holt can't run well anymore. I might just spend the #49 on the best receiver available. That's not too far down the draft boards, receivers tend to stay around a bit longer than some other positions. Could be a pretty good one still there.

ESPN really likes this trade.

For the Broncos.

Mark Schlereth thought it was crazy how Bears fans could be excited when we lost our two starting tackles from last year.

Nevermind the fact they were terrible and we've replaced them with what are likely better options this year.

It's a great deal for Denver. They made it known they wanted 2 firsts and they got them and a QB that can play right now with a bunch of weapons. It's great for the Bears too. Whether they do anything this year is beside the point. A team that looked to be building a dynasty in the mid 80s, has wallowed in overall mediocrity for the 25 years since then, minus 1 real good year and a few really bad ones.

No offense to Schlereth, but I doubt he even knows the other moves we've made this offseason. We've upgraded both our tackle positions significantly.

YES!!!!!!! Franchise QB!

exactly. and no, i'm not going to temper my excitement with "we'll get a few good years out of him, hopefully."

he's a pro-bowl quarterback and the best thing that's happened to our franchise in a long time. this is the biggest move the bears have ever made, ever. he is our quarterback of the past, present, and the future.

Wow. I'm stunned. Just ... stunned.

Great move.

Cutler and a 2009 5th for Orton, two 1sts (2009 and 2010), and a 2009 3rd. I'll take that.
